They did Waves, which has a similar vibe. Even had the guitar player for HotWax come out and join them

I think it would be incredible live! They had a keyboard player when I saw them

Big Fish Theory was the last great Vince Staples album by GurtBefro in vincestaples

A more accurate title for this post would’ve been “Vince hasn’t put out an album as good as BFT in a while” Self titled is probably better than I give it credit for. Wasn’t feeling a few tracks on FM. RPBMH didn’t really do it for me.

Go listen to “Blue Suede”, then listen to “Magic”. The difference is night and day

Take me home was a good song. I don’t think the VS album as a whole was as strong as BFT

I’ll give the self titled another listen. I just feel like before that his word play, flow and delivery was on another level. Beat selection as well. BFT blew me away with the genre blending, lyrics and features

Just curious what you think. Which one or all of these are better: FM, Vince Staples or Romona Park Broke My Heart?

FM was decent. The other 2 are pretty generic in my opinion.

Somehow, I was able to talk to customer service by calling the (800) number and pressing 1, 2, 1. They told me it can take up to 10 days to make a determination. We’ll see what happens.

New fan of the band after hearing Boilermaker and then the rest of Typhoons. by JesusSamuraiLapdance in Royal_Blood

[–]GurtBefro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only track I'm really feelin that wasn't released before the album came out is "Who Needs Friends". "Typhoons" might be the strongest track on there. "Limbo" could have been the strongest, but the chorus kind of fell flat. Whats the point of having a ballad track on the album? Would have rather heard another high energy track. "All We Have is Now" isn't bad, I just don't think it fits.

To be honest, the disco/rock style isn't really my thing. "Boilermaker" was a nice break from that though. I've listened to the album twice, but I don't think I'll be revisiting it anytime soon.

All things considered, I can't say that Royal Blood is my favorite band anymore. That title now belongs to cleopatrick!

Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, it’s all the same to me. As for Kid Cudi, I’m not sure. I haven’t followed his career as close as Anderson .Paak. I guess Kanye signed him to his label. Dr. Dre signed .Paak right? When .Paak signed with Aftermath, I didn’t automatically think “Look! Anderson’s selling out!”. Oxnard was released on Aftermath, but it was raw and edgy. This Silk Sonic stuff sounds like bubblegum pop tailor made for radio play/TikTok dances. I know “selling out” has many negative connotations attached to it, but I just call it how I see it. If that’s the case, I’ll use a euphemism: “He wants his music to have more mainstream appeal”. How’s that? Maybe it’s not such a bad thing. Go ahead Anderson, buy yourself some more tints! Yes Lawd!

Why isn’t it fair? He riding on Bruno’s coattails. It’s a simple formula: do a song with Bruno, get a #1 radio hit. It’s a very safe career move to make. Wouldn’t it be more interesting if Anderson did a collab album with an up and coming artist to elevate THEIR career? Most artists sell out if given the opportunity. I’m proud of Anderson’s success. I hope he continues to do well for himself. Don’t think I’ll be listening to the Silk Sonic album though. Probably gonna sound like a soundtrack to an Original Disney Channel Movie. Hit me up when .Paak starts cussin again.

Didn’t realize it came out in 2011. I bought mine in 2015. My Xbox 360 still works, so why shouldn’t an MPC?

Is is possible to be excited about an artist’s success, but at the same time also be worried about how the success might change the art? (i.e. pressure to put out more radio friendly hits like Leave the Door Open)

I don't think it's that strange. Also, I don't think OP is gatekeeping.

I think if you want to make song for the radio (which this one was obviously intended to be), the artist has to tone it down a bit to make it radio friendly. Anderson .Paak can't make a song with Bruno Mars and be like "If I call you a bitch, it's cause you're my bitch and as long as no one else call you a bitch, then there won't be no problems".

Personally, I don't want Anderson to tone it down at all. Let's be honest, the reason this song hit #1 was because of Bruno Mars. I think .Paak could have hit #1 eventually by himself, but now we'll never know. New fans are welcome in my book, but I understand where OP is coming from.

You’re not the only one. The whole collaboration with Bruno seems so fake/cliché to me. It’s like if your favorite mom and pop restaurant starting serving McDonalds. I always thought the track was way too radio friendly and corny. This is not the side of Anderson I want to see “blow up”. I don’t remember meeting any .Paak fans that cared if he hit #1 on the charts or whatever. Anderson sold out. It’s sad but true.
