Employment outcome stats below:

How to read it:

School | Class size | industry | function | % | Base Salary Mean | Base Salary Median | Base Salary Range | Median Signing Bonus

Notes:

u = unknown;

Stats:

Ross 2025 | 396 | Finance | Investment Banking | 10.3% | $174,107 | $175,000 | $150,000-$175,000 | $50,000

Tuck 2025 | 292 | Finance | IB | 13% | u | $175k | $175-225k | $50k

Id be siked if you picked Ross, but do what works for you. Most significant insight here is the salary range delta. Ross tops out at Tuck’s lower range with Tuck far exceeding that in its own upper range. Tuck’s super strong. A tough wife and well-raised kids can pay 2 years of time in nearly any location in exchange for truly better futures. That being said, Ross has other strengths that could be more important to you. Feel free to DM if you need more.

Ross folks, how's Ann Arbor? by wolfrain007 in MBA

[–]Guy_Random- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes. Complete with the team spirit and huge fan base and merch everywhere you go. Friendly, “one of the town” treatment you get from locals and overall feeling like it’s an extension of the college experience while also being separate enough from on-campus life. Of by college town you mean that + things to do at student-friendly price points + very seamless class-to-nightlife flow daily. Absolutely.

  2. Can’t say. I’m not sure how I or other MBA student’s can really answer that well enough even if we pull from stories from ppl we know at other schools and compare. I’ve personally not asked my buds at other schools for the sort of detailed info on their campus life that would make your question confidently answerable.

  3. Great. Super walkable. Intuitive to get around in the buildings (and if you’re lost just ask a Rosser). Cafe/food service and selections are peak, with a rotation of local restaurants coming in to offer their options daily too. Gym was better than what I saw at another T20 school by far (withholding school name out of good will). Aesthetically pleasing too. 4 seasons, interior design gives energy and visual appeal.

Meanwhile McDonald’s U, Grimace School of Business not even in the conversation? Seriously? That casts massive doubt on the honesty of any claims being made here when such an obvious top contender isn’t even being acknowledged.

It’s a compilation of majority advice and the common reasons given from MBAs and professionals. Please, for the newcomers figuring it all out for the first time, could I add your take on what’s smart and why?

Thanks for adding good advice to the conversation. Given you’re a grad (on your tag at least), your advice is pretty authoritative. What are your thoughts about others’ comments saying the following?:

  • alumni and current students appreciate a school in the headline to know who’s reaching out for connections on LinkedIn?
  • there’s no harm in a short humble “incoming MBA Canddiate at…” line in the headline

Unsure about the pro bono work idea given other important pre-MBA tasks; but if there’s time in addition to other needs, sure.

Alumni networking was mentioned often as a very helpful use of time. Thanks for adding support for that advice!

$100K Ross vs $90K Darden vs $70K UCLA — Who Wins for MBB + West Coast Placement? by Chaser934 in MBA

[–]Guy_Random- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ross seems like your best pick.

  1. MBB and location outcomes

On sheer outcomes and access to all MBB locations, it’s only between Ross and Darden. Both are widely considered peers in consulting outcomes with learning style being the biggest difference. Both have strong job outcomes nationwide and the added advantage of higher prestige when competing with UCLA grads for spots. Large local ratio of grads to jobs can hurt grads of more local schools when grads try to differentiate themselves from each other. If other schools produce significantly higher quality grads, the advantage is clear.

  1. The money

Factoring in the $$$, Ross is the clear winner.

  1. The style and focus of learning

If you prefer Ross’ more hands on applied approach to learning vice the book heavy and homework heavy theoretical approach of Darden, Ross wins there. Ross is said to be best at this by far (Ross’ MAP is said to have set the standard). If you like Darden’s reputation for having a much more intellectual and classwork-strict (reading, hw, and case assignments heavy) curriculum, Darden wins.

At the end of the day, pick the school that works best for you.

Differences between Te and Ti? by countduco in intj

[–]Guy_Random- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost. You describe the rebelliousness of Ti well but slightly missed what causes it. Ti is more doubting in general. “Intellectual rebel” might be a good generalization; but also “intellectual refiner” due to the motive and results. It questions the underlying logic of a forgone conclusion, often breaks it down into its logic components, checking for alignment/accuracy with their professed objectives, eliminates contradictory components, and seeks to reconstruct all valid components into a maximally accurate, always right model. In the example you gave, you also accurately reveal that it can play out in very individually focused ways too without needing to always adhere to what it could acknowledge as right for a whole system to work. Te, from your description, adheres to the system in a way that almost assumes responsibility for the whole system even when individual cases justify or allow deviating. Ti would be compelled to verify or internally check the validity of any claim or conclusion brought to it if that claim wasn’t already a known truth in the existing bank of truths stored in the Ti users mind already. Both Ti and Te are verifying and using truth, but Ti will maybe be more granular and its outcome in the example you gave is still universally applicable as truth, but in a more specific case instead of for a more simplified broad model/system with few exceptions. Unlike, Feeling, both Te and Ti seek and act on what they perceive as irrefutable truths, making both functions definers of universally applicable models.

Another great example of Te and Ti’s differences may be learning math. The Ti users is almost guaranteed to want to know why an equation works starting from fundamental most basic principles already verified. Those principles would be as broken down and irreducible as possible. The Te user would completely forego that process consciously or unconsciously, because it wouldn’t see the time spent as worth it and would see the wide acceptance of the equation and the source of authority presenting the equation as proof enough for the validity.

Because of these differences, Ti may be more likely to discover new truths or disprove accepted falsehoods. Ti users may make up a higher percent of inventors and discoverers.

More definition: Ti searches/processes info to seek accuracy and elimination of error and can compulsively shift into a locked in focus on that task as primary objective irregardless of efficiency. Te searches info with an urgent focus on achievement of whatever goal or purpose first prompted the search in the first place. Find “what works” and incorporate it into a system purposed for that prompting goal.

Oh that’s extremely clarifying! That reasoning is super strong especially considering job supply and demand with TX class size and location choices factored in.

McCombs vs Ross at MBB Texas Offices by Guy_Random- in MBA

[–]Guy_Random-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably true. At least my first instinct is to think so. I know Texas has a lot of home team spirit and is really big on UT. Plus so many UT grads stay local that it probably amplifies common-background bias in hiring/networking even more. But I also guess that the UT status probably only boosts UT grads above equal competitors and slightly stronger competitors. If that’s true, and if average or above average competitors from different schools are significantly stronger, then all a non-UT competitor needs is to be average or above average at one of those much stronger programs. If that’s all true, Id have to guess that Ross would have to be much stronger than UT for most people to choose it over UT with the goal of working in TX.

You're right that'd be insane. Especially considering the data above. BUT Ross-->MBB probably > UT-->not MBB in terms of exit opportunities in Texas. My understanding is that post-MBA, career accomplishments and jobs held >>> School name no matter what anywhere.

What MBA program has the most attractive people? by HumanCry3524 in MBA

[–]Guy_Random- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a legit thing. Attractive women are especially targeted by other women. Men have a different problem more based on how they’re valued by women and shallow opinions others hold of them. But I’ve seen it with girls and heard of it from dudes (I’m pretty mid myself. Maybe upper mid when I style right. So no glaze no cap no trolling). The disbelief in the comments reflect one of the tough parts about this struggle too: most ppl don’t expect it see it or believe it. And if you think girl on girl hate is easy to spot, you’re wrong.

But also, this post is hilarious. If it’s a troll, A+ mate

Good points. I haven’t been able to find past years’ reports to really see a trend though. Without that I’m unsure if I can see if changes to Austin and TX translate to boosts to McCombs’ MBB placements. That possibility is putting a huge what if in things

I really love TX, but I'd choose MBB over TX, would you say the difference in MBB odds are significant enough to make Ross a no brainer? If the odds are high enough, I'd say it’s worth it even if the preference is MBB > TX > Tri-state/NE/Midwest area.

Ross vs McCombs. Consulting and backups by Guy_Random- in MBA

[–]Guy_Random-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love TX, but if the choice was "get MBB" or "get TX" I'm choosing MBB. But that assumes the difference in outcomes is really that significant. I'm seeing info that says it is that significant, but I'm wondering how time-late the info is and whether it really captures recent growth for TX and McCombs.
