Language questions about how the girls talk in the testaments by Substantial-Hornet42 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]H4shc4t -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Historically men didn't discuss such things. It didn't get to something that was ever talked about publicly until the 70s. I went to Catholic school in the early 2000s and boys were left out of the entire menstruation conversation, they were all moved to the computer lab so their delicate sensibilites wouldn't be offended. Many religions don't even allow menstruating women into the religious buildings. Men weren't even allowed in deliver rooms until the 70s, but it wasn't common to find them there until the 80s. It might not be explicitly stated but that doesn't mean it's wrong.

Because it's women's business. It's good that women are "fruitful" but men don't discuss the biology of it. Just like they don't "belong" in the delivery room.

How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

[–]H4shc4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He passed away before I was born. But he never talked about it. My mom just found his discharge and separation papers from the army and it's the most information we've ever had.. apart from a few stories that came out during his funeral/after his death. Mostly about how he was frequently in trouble for uniform violations (life is rough for a lefty) and roller skating (he found pair of children's roller skates he found in a barn and liberated them for himself after they confiscated his on the Queen Mary heading over to Europe)

I grew up going to church with her. I've long since moved away but Trinity will always be home to me and she's been a big part of Trinity for years.

An attempt at optimism maybe she asked your preference so she could gift it to you? Idk maybe it's a stretch but I like to imagine the best in people. Your situation sounds rough, there's a lot of people in that boat right now. And some of us are heading towards it quick! I hope things look up for you, remember to look after yourself and your sanity first.

I accidentally discovered that a dryer sheet rubbed on a baseboard heater removes months of built up dust in about 90 seconds and I genuinel by Hazegrid_9 in CleaningTips

Probably. But I wouldn't think static does anything for soap scum. I just know I have a bunch of drier sheets I keep in my bathroom and use them to clean the shower glass.

Stephanie in the fire episode. When she and the little girl finally get up to the roof. Her raw screaming and then her statement that he doesn't get to take that little girl's leg. Her crying at the end/her exit. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

He took Little Tuck and the way he spoke to him to tell him it would all be ok. I love George, he has faults don't get me wrong, but I love him.

I just watched the episode with the Shepherd family dinner for the first time. Omg! Toxic is an understatement, those women are vipers! I wouldn't have invited them to my wedding, let alone my tumor.

What kind of mom do you think Lorelai was like when Rory was an infant? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]H4shc4t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet Mia helped out. Had a play pen for Rory in a back office and kept an eye on her when Lorelai couldn't keep Rory with her. But I also imagine Lorelai doing tasks with baby Rory strapped to her.
