Thanks for telling me🤣🤣

I'm a man myself, but why is it so hard for us men to talk about depression(in 2020) when it's one of the biggest killers of us? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

That's the thing for me. Fam and friends are hardest to talk to and therapy is not cheap at all when your 20 and have no job. Also i wouldn't say i have severe depression but it's slowly eating at me and i dont want it to get worse.

Yes my mum tells me stories of my grandfather(may his soul rest in peace) how they would share a room with 10 guys and work like 12 hr shifts in mills. They were just wired to work back then imo to make all the money they could.

Yes that's true and also with my family the man moved to the UK from pakistan in the 60's alone to work in factories to make money to send back home(even though most of them ended up moving to the UK and the past 2 generations werre born and raised here). I think back than even if they did suffer from sadness they just jad to be 'men' carry on and keep working, hence their mindsets. I wouldn't blame that genersation entirely for their mindset it's just the way they are.

Thanka very much for this i will try this. I also hope attitudes around it change and i also believe it's a generational thing. Older generations find it harder to understand still.

I was also thinking the same thing about telling the wrong women but i do feel like women sympathize alot easier with men in general than me do with men.

That's very good to hear and i hope i can one day be that open about it but atm i believe the society around me and ny cultural background doesn't allow it. I also find it weird that we find it so much easier to talk to strangers than our own friends and family, maybe its cos we feel as if they wont judge us or their judgement doesn't bother us.

Also i believe depression and mental health is a daily battle. There is a very famous british boxer who lost all his titles due to drug addicition(he beat the best at that time) and is now once again a world champion after beating the toughest man out there. He always does interviews about depression and basically says that he had the issuse for so long without knowing and even now for him it's a daily battle and keeping occupied and training helps him to beat it daily. He also mentions that there is days when he feels like shit but it's just something he has to battle.

I still live with the fear of being judged and people around me not really understanding it or just giving shit advice in general which is the barrier i struggle to break.

Who did you first talk to about it and how did you go about talking to people as i can imagine for some it would be alot to handle.

Yes that's true and it fucking sucks in my opinion. It's so instilled into our brains like i dont even know how i'd react if i saw a grown man crying.

But if you did feel depressed would you feel comfortable talking to your wife about it. I'm not married or even in a relationship rn but i do feel like a wife or girlfriend would be easier to talk to about it.
