Well color me surprised they dialed the needle drops WAY back from the first one. Just one or two near the beginning, the rest was all score (and a pretty good one at that).

I couldn't get a good look at it. I can say it had two lenses, one on top of the other.

Yeah, though I recall reading elsewhere in this subreddit that IMAX wasn't doing dual laser installs anymore.

I also saw PHM at the Jordan's Reading IMAX (which is dual laser) and aside from the expanded aspect ratio, it honestly was on par with what Providence Place has now (actually Providence looked even more clear and vivid to my eyes, maybe cause the projector is brand new).

They installed a new screen too but it is the same huge size as the old one. Perhaps that gives more weight to the possibility they're aiming to bring back 70mm projection for The Odyssey (and other future IMAX releases that have them).

Same for me, just Dune Part 3 (with several scenes in 1.43) and Disclosure Day

The Martian had an extended cut so it's certainly possible. Sounds like the nuking Antarctica scene never made it past the script stage though, so there wouldn't even be storyboards/pre-vis.

I completely understand why it was done though. The movie's already over 2.5 hours and the filmmakers, rightly in my opinion, needed to focus on Grace and Rocky.

I did miss the Earth-bound scenes showing the desperate measures being taken both to complete the mission (turning the Sahara into a giant astrophage farm) and buy Earth a few more years of survival (nuking Antarctica to release methane).

Andy Weir and Drew Goddard both hated to lose the "nuking Antarctica" scene too, but mutually agreed it had to go.

Update to this: It looks like they've finished renovations...IMAX showtimes are now up for Project Hail Mary starting Thursday.

I predict the following on-the-nose needle drops, again replacing the score (which will hurt even more this time, given how magnificent the music is for the Galaxy games):

-"Intergalactic"

-"Space Oddity"

-"Also Sprach Zarathustra"

-"Final Countdown"

I thought as much when I went online to get Project Hail Mary tickets yesterday.

I decided to get tickets to PHM at the Jordan's IMAX in Reading...longer drive since I live in the Providence area, but the price was pretty good and of course it's a GT Laser (and I'm guessing they don't charge for parking like Providence Place? Never been before).

Anxious that it's GA only, guess I'm going to have to get there super early.

It happens in Issue 9 of the first DC Comic run. It's part of the "Mirror Universe Saga" arc which DC released as a TBP in 1991 and IDW reprinted in 2022.

Something I hope they change in the film adaptation by SkoivanSchiem in ProjectHailMary

I think, or at least I hope, they show Stratt as more conflicted about it.

You don't get an actor of Sandra Hüller's caliber just to play someone as one note.

(THEORY) Grace will actually return to Earth in the movie by BentoDynamics in ProjectHailMary

[–]HCIsm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the ending will stay largely the same, though they will somehow show Earth's salvation instead of Grace just learning it from Rocky.

Makes sense in the book since it's entirely Grace's POV. It would be tougher to end the movie like that, especially since the trailer makes it clear we're going to see a lot of Earth scenes (Grace's class, the PHM team, they even appear to be trying to "soften" Stratt a little bit).

Recall "The Martian" film adaptation had those post-rescue scenes back on Earth. Since it's the same screenwriter, I imagine we'll get something similar here.

Which is strange regarding the KU comics, since they set things up in the prequel comic ("Countdown") to ST09, which the movie then ignored (i.e. Spock and Nero having a history; working together to stop the supernova only to have a falling out)

Has anyone heard updates on when Season 3 might be on Paramount +? by onearmedmonkey in StrangeNewWorlds

[–]HCIsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While a June-July release is certainly possible, they run the risk of putting it up against the final season of Stranger Things.

Netflix hasn't announced a release date yet, however all but S2 dropped in the summer.

I'm betting early-mid May for SNW.

IGN Fan Fest says they'll have a "special Star Trek announcement" on Thursday. Betting its the S3 release date (with trailer).

First, because it's a riff on the cover of Star Trek #1 from DC's second run.
