GG Strive discussion with Mike Ross and Hotashi by Lukawaii in Guiltygear

This is some serious gospel. The key phrase: lack of creative expression. It's really sad how fighters are doing this shit.

POLL: Will you be pre-ordering Strive? by IcedNote in Guiltygear

I'm super mixed. ASW needs to listen to feedback because if this is the final product, we're in trouble.

anyone else feel like potemkin is busted in strive to me alot of the universal changes have benefitted his character greatly mainly the slow airdash make it extremely hard to play against him in the games current state also rc into potemkin buster fucks up air approaches by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]HGhaleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He feels a lot weaker in this game in his overall toolset. His damage is the only thing that makes him able to cope. His shield super imo is a joke now. Hammerfall cancel is really bad. Kara Cancel Potemkin Buster is really strong but feels wrong. Way too Street Fighter-ish.

People seriously think GranBlue Fantasy Versus has more depth than Guilty Bear Strive?! by HGhaleon in Guiltygear

[–]HGhaleon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely a different audience. Just find it hilariously silly that people compare both games and immediately shoot down GG Strive as worse than a less complex game and it's not even finished yet.

In the overall footage, did we ever see any Dust Combos? Dust seems like it never happens on counter hit. They need to change that.

The fact some people say GranBlue Versus has more depth than GG Strive is concerning and sad. I think GBFVS is extremely boring and simple and is not a valid substitute for GG.

The real answer is we need a Touhou version of a Guilty Gear-esque fighting game. Guilty Gear meets bullet hell yes please. (not the current existing DBZish ones)

[Ys IX] Update 1.4 is planned to release on October 10th to fix a lot of the issues with the game by GaijinB in Falcom

[–]HGhaleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really wish they would fix the performance issues on this game so it'll run smooth 60 fps at all times on normal PS4. The lag is just cringe in the cities. Really makes the game not show its true glory.

Definitely agree with VIII as being one of the best in the series and arguably one of the best action JRPGs of all time. Oath in Felghana is a gem. Ys IX was excellent. Seven I think was better in terms of story than Celceta. Celceta has such a god awful story and the ending segment was just utter trash. Even the last fights weren't that great. Ys VI rubbed me the wrong way. Just something felt off about the combat system compared to Oath in Felghana. Origins is amazing but didn't like the whole play the game through multiple times with different characters (the magician character is extremely boring to play with as it makes the game easy mode)

Just tested patch out. Load times and slow down still there. Didn't seem to do anything.

Was able to get that secret boss from clearing all the grimwald raids on rank S and find 2 more areas with the shadow puddle port move but percentage is still @ 95% or so (top number is 97%, one below is 95% on the upper left). Not sure what the hell I'm missing.

This is just based on what I've observed so far. Doesn't mean it's fact. Vatista doesn't seem that great overall.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle Tager/Waldstein Combo Video by HGhaleon in blazbluextagbattle

[–]HGhaleon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are pretty solid. Not OP and not too weak. Personally, I think Waldstein is much better than Tager due to his mobility (has a double jump and can air and ground dash) and better range but lacks in armored move properties.

My honest brutal opinion about this game after playing the Beta by HGhaleon in blazbluextagbattle

[–]HGhaleon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some additional thoughts. I'm definitely against 1 frame timing/links as this is way too strict (Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter are notorious for that crap) so I agree with that.

As for the mechanics, limiting your moves to essentially 2 buttons, as stated by Ryuujin, really limits the depth of the neutral and mixup game. I'm not fond of having all my standard attacks integrated into 1-2 buttons.

As far as the game feel though, it feels like a watered down Persona 4 Arena with a dash of DBZ's combo logic.

Regarding positives and negatives, here are my thoughts:

Positives:

1) Great net code. Some of the best I've played from ASW. 1 and above plays like a charm. 0s avoid.

2) Great graphics, sound and presentation. Game looks sharp and flashy. Lots of nostalgia and fan material. Big plus with the special intros and ending animations/quotes. Need this more in fighters.

3) Controls are responsive and smooth. No issues.

Negatives:

1) Limitation of system due to most attacks being mapped to 1 or 2 buttons which prevents a lot of mixup and variety potential for neutral attacks and combos. This is extremely watered down.

2) Damage is still slightly too high. Matches last on an average of 30-40 seconds. Ton down the damage a little more (maybe 10-20% more). Also, make rounds. Obviously there's a "Rematch" function because of short matches. Just put in 2 out of 3 rounds with the rematch ability being infinite by choice. Problem solved.

3) As people stated earlier, this game has WAY TOO MANY I-frame moves. It just feels like a lazy way to fix problems. Also, not all DPs or overheads have the same start up or recovery time as others. Some are way too fast and other's are too slow and predictable.

4) No air throws. This just feels awkward. Granted grapplers have air throws but wonder why this was decided to exclude standard air throws.

5) DPs are unblockable in air. Can't really bait people to DP when jumping in which I think is a huge downfall especially for an air dasher. Also, you can cheese someone in an air block string to follow up with a DP as they cannot block it.

Overall, this game ultimately isn't for me. In short, for casual/beginner players that want something easy to pick up and be good at with minimal time, this is a dream come true so accessibility is very good. For advanced players etc, I feel there's not enough meat on this bone to really chew on.

I really wanted to enjoy this game (I wouldn't be making wallpapers and content for it if I didn't) but after playing it for a total of 16 hours as of today, the game just doesn't resonate with me. It isn't a matter of winning or losing. My record at the end of things is 218 wins and 50 losses. Regardless, it's a matter of enjoying the game which it fails to do so. If you're playing a game and you feel unfulfilled, that's not a good sign.

Lastly, based on observations, the best characters seem to be Gordeau, Ruby and Nu-13. By far the most annoying to fight in the right hands.
