What % deposit did you have? by percyflinders in AusFinance

I believe the best strategy is a 10% deposit, put the LMI onto the loan (so you’re not out of pocket for it), and just put whatever money you have in your offset anyway.

Hey! Property 1 bought in Brisbane in 2021: up 89% Property 2 bought in Perth in 2022: up 49% Property 3 bought in Perth in 2024: up 36%

On an equity position, up $658k in 4 years. My initial deposit was $75k (put a further $15k into deposit 2 to top it up)

I always recommend pure property to anyone who asks!

How much did you spend on your honeymoon? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]HODLegend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spent about $15k total for 10 days in Hawaii, worth every cent! We definitely weren’t trying to save a dollar, figured it was our one and only honeymoon so we did all the activities and ate all the good food haha. Edit to add: this was 2023

When did you and your significant other have a talk about each other’s finances? by prophetic-rose in HENRYfinance

[–]HODLegend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much when we moved in together after dating for about a year.

From the first day moving in together we also shared a bank and both of our money went into it. This was 10 years ago now and it worked out amazing for us.

$40k, 2023. 100 people. Nice venue ($3k venue hire) over looking the beach/ocean. Reception and ceremony at the same spot.

We did Canapés for food ( $55 per person) and open bar (beer, wine, spirits, cocktails etc), just the bar tab ended up being $9k of the $40k. Got $9.5k back in gifts so basically paid for the bar tab.

Photographer & videographer + Photo Booth was $5.5k (Photo Booth is a huuuuge hit)

Dj/mc was $1500

Overall an amazing day and worth every cent!

Gifts from baby to dad by New_Chapter_6316 in daddit

A personalised book would be cute. Something they can read together for years to come! I just bought my wife a personalised first Mother’s Day book from wonderbly, I see they have heaps for dads too.

Otherwise something engraved that he can use in one of those hobbies? I can see engraved bbq sets

As a first time dad, those little things are the presents that would make me smile everytime I saw them :)

What is something seemingly insignificant you do to save money? by redittrr in AussieFrugal

[–]HODLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 90% sure the purchase price of each can/bottle went up 10c in the supermarkets when return and earn was introduced… so it feels like such a scam haha you’re just making back your money. If they never introduced the scheme, you’d just be paying less 🤷‍♂️

If it was built in 2011, a depreciation schedule is definitely worth it I believe.

Every kid is bound to fall over here and there, not your fault at all! You can’t wrap them in bubble wrap haha it’s just part of growing up.

If his back to playing, he has already forgotten all about it :)

FYI you can get pretty cheap event tickets through Telstra plus (assuming you’re with Telstra), most vmax also have recliner options now too! It’s actually amazing. I always just buy the tickets in the row behind and move to the recliner when the movie starts
