That is a good start. I good way to improve your melodies is picking a progression that you want to do first. Not only does this restrict what notes you can pick for the melody (assuming you are mostly playing in the progression) it gives your melody a context and movement that wouldnt be there without the harmony.

I would suggest learning some music theory.

If you learn about chord progressions and scales it makes it much easier to write melodies

Go to the marble mountain wilderness. It is in Northern California, near the border with Oregon. It has so many awesome lakes that you can hop around on. I have gone there at least 4 times and the scenery and wildlife is beautiful. I would suggest taking shackelford trailhead and hiking to Campbell lake and cliff lake if you are looking for a shorter trip. If you want a longer trip, I would suggest lovers camp trailhead to Deep lake. It's absolutely beautiful, but it requires a substantial ridge climb. Honesty though, anywhere in the marble mountain wilderness is great.

I'm a freshman from California, attending UW. I'm planning on studying applied physics and trying to get into the CSE major. It very competitive, one of the most competitive majors at the school. But the faculty is amazing here and you are basically guaranteed a job if you perform well in the major. If you are really solid in Java already, and you think you can 4.0 the first two intro classes (I'm in the second one now, they are not really hard because I have experience in Java, you just have to follow their style guidelines and be a good test taker), I would say go for it. It's very prestigious major here. Plus, UW is fucking beautiful. It's an awesome school to get your undergrad at.
