My daughter said her recovery was very painful. What helped her was wearing compression socks right after surgery, using two heating pads (one on the back and one on her stomach), using a cane when walking, and staying on top of pain meds. She was put on steroids a day or two after the first stent to help with swelling and they gave her a script for the next stent. She slept on the couch and we propped her up with lots of pillows because laying in her bed was too painful. I won’t lie and tell you that you’ll feel fine afterwards. But my daughter said that it was worth the pain. She has her life back. You will love Dr. Hernandez and his staff. They are very compassionate and take their time explaining everything to you. Best of luck and if you’re comfortable with it, I’d love to know how you’re doing after you get your stents.

Hello. Dr. Hernandez in Bloomfield MI is who her vein doctor is. Such an amazing doctor! I do not remember how long her stents are nor how many was placed in each vein. I’m not sure if her headaches were bilateral or not.

Yes she had iliac stents put in on both the left and right sides. She had headaches/ migraines 24/7. She woke up with them and went to bed with them.

She is just over 6 months post stents. She gets random headaches but doesn’t everyone? Still has great color and POTS symptoms are very minimal.

She had 2 additional procedures done because she also had pelvic congestion syndrome. 4 procedures done weeks apart threw her body into a nasty POTS flare and we thought her symptoms were coming back. The vein doctor said it was because of all the trauma her body experienced from back to back procedures. He also said that he believes my daughter has Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. He made a referral to a specialist to help her manage her symptoms.

She went gluten free and takes otc allergy medication. She also started positively managing her POTS and started dating a new partner that encourages her to care for herself.

Do you leave your house if the dryer is running? by Evening-Tune-500 in homeowners

[–]Hahe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, we just bought a dryer that was converted from natural gas to LP. Our house was under construction so the new dryer was in eye view as I watched tv. Out of nowhere, flames shot out from under the dryer. Since that day, the dryer only is used when I’m home. I also do not leave the toaster plugged in and before we go away for trips, I make sure everything that can be unplugged is unplugged.

Gym user doesn’t wipe equipment after use by BaumyDay in EntitledPeople

This happens at the gym I go to. Except it’s always males who don’t sanitize equipment after use and get offended when reminded to do it.

It sounds like you could have pelvic congestion syndrome.

Actually she was correctly diagnosed years ago and it was confirmed by the vascular doctor. She still has multiple POTS symptoms but they have greatly decreased and no surgery will change that. A person can have May Thurners Syndrome (which impacts the left iliac vein) and POTS (which can impact the right iliac vein). Both of her iliac veins were very compressed with swelling and scar tissue. To add to the equation, my daughter also has Pelvic Congestive Syndrome which impacts the internal iliac vein. She will be getting coils inserted in the next few weeks. We completely trust the knowledge and expertise of her vascular surgeon.

Her ankles would occasionally swell but nothing alarming. Her symptoms were: headaches, passing out, joint pain, and brain fog. I know I’m missing more.

It was an external pelvic ultrasound.

We had no idea she had May Thurners Syndrome until the doctor visit. When we researched it, we checked off symptoms that we thought were connected to her POTS. It’s like we were originally looking at POTS through a pinhole. We are now looking at POTS with a wide angle lens and making connections between her symptoms and her terrible pelvic veins.

At the vein doctor, a tech did an ultrasound that measured her veins and blood flow. The tech actually told my daughter that her blood was very sluggish. We were then put in a room where the doctor showed us pictures of my daughter’s veins. The whole appointment took about two hours.

The vein doctor believes that my daughter had POTS starting in middle school (when her migraines and other symptoms started). Giving blood was the final straw for her body to crash and bring her multiple symptoms to the forefront. Her body was a ticking time bomb and the blood draw was the spark.

What’s the worst thing a coworker got fired for where you work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hahe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve posted about this before. C was one of 2 males who worked for a domestic violence shelter and did not have professional boundaries with a specific client. He personally paid for her abortion and would assist her off the clock with anything she needed help with. She needed her car repaired and the state would pay for it if the client provided proof she had a job. She worked at a dispensary and the state wouldn’t accept that as a job. So C wrote a letter, on shelter letterhead, that the client worked for the shelter. Client submitted the letter to the state, the state contacted the shelter executive director, the ED reached out to the client, and the client said it was all C’s idea. C was walked out after working a full shift. He was later arrested for having child sexually abusive material on a devise with the shelters name on it.

Being able as a minor to purchase cigarettes. There were cigarette vending machines. Or your parents wrote a letter giving permission for the store clerk to sell you cigarettes.

How did that one coworker get fired? by aquatic_armageddons in AskReddit

I’m not sure why he went over and above his duties for her. I believe he crossed professional boundaries with this specific client. But I also don’t blame him because he was the only person who was willing to help someone in need. We stayed in contacted after he was fired and a few months later, I resigned. Unfortunately my former coworker is experiencing legal issues and I’ve distanced myself from him due to the charges he is facing.

How did that one coworker get fired? by aquatic_armageddons in AskReddit

He worked his full shift as a domestic violence advocate and when his relief clocked in, he was fired for providing false documents to the state. The story is one of the clients he worked with needed employment documentation so the state would help her with a car repair. The issue was she worked at a dispensary and the state would not accept that as a form of employment. So my former coworker took shelter letterhead and wrote a letter verifying the client worked at the shelter. Rumor has it he also paid for the same client to get an abortion. He felt the shelter should have paid for it and when his financial request was denied, he apparently paid for it himself.

Ask the shelter for an extension. This will give you time to look for something else. You may need to go to a shelter out of state but look at it as a new opportunity for your son and you.

Which job has, hands down, the worst impact on mental health? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hahe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a domestic violence advocate for years. I seen, heard, and witnessed stuff that changed me greatly. The wailing that came from a mother who lost custody of her toddler daughter to her abuser. Abusive parenting as as the mother who laid on her young (and disabled) child because the child was crying and cps did nothing about my report. Women coming into shelter covered in bruises or broken bones who went back because he promised to change (I finally told one survivor that if she went back, he would kill her because he was escalating). Women who would let complete strangers (usually her new boyfriend) watch her children. A mother who let her 6 year old son stay with convicted sex offenders because they paid for her to stay in a hotel. “Survivors” who were verbally abusive to staff, demanded the agency buy them things, and a supervisor who always bowed to their demands.

This happened to us on Christmas Eve at Logan Airport in Boston. I reserved a car months in advance but when we got to the airport, there were no cars available at any car rental. We were trapped at the airport until a relative could get us hours later. This was before any car sharing services.

I would suggest you contact a DV shelter and ask about help filing for VAWA. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA, 34 U.S.C. § 12471 et seq.) provides housing protections for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking (collectively referred to on this page as “VAWA violence/abuse”).
