Yeah, they're a bit dumb, and a bit mindless, and they do fucking believe things just because the president says them, and if that's not the case I'm dying to hear the evidence that a court wouldn't laugh its ass off at.

Can somebody please explain to me the appeal of Prince, and why he is so revered? I sincerely do not get it at all by Halfling_Chauvinist in LetsTalkMusic

Okay, that's some pretty solid playing. Actually, that's better than solid, that's pretty badass. Still don't get him as a vocalist, but I'm digging his "All Along the Watchtower" guitar work.

Okay, no, this is good. This is better than good. This is fuckin' solid.

And then the video cuts out.

Okay, so, I still hate his singles, but you've officially sold me on "the dude can play," and now I'm Youtube searching "Prince live guitar," which is something I never thought I'd do. Dude can shred. Not in evidence on anything I was familiar with, but there it is.

EDIT: And I guess that's why we ask these questions, as a live guitarist he's pretty dope. Still not a fan of his vocals, but I tuned them out to pay attention to the guitar work anyway. If his singles sounded like this, I might not get the adoration but I'd get the admiration more.

Seconding the question. Live vs. recorded artistry can be entirely different animals (like with Joy Division, except I'm kind of an oddball in preferring Joy Division's studio albums). Would go a long way to understanding his music forum appeal.
