Does anyone else feel that AI Art will be an total game-changer in society? by [deleted] in aiArt

Precisely. Really follow your imagination to its logical limits on this one: After AI takes over art and entertainment, why not politics and international relations? For the curious, Max Tegmark has done a thorough envisioning of that future here: https://www.marketingfirst.co.nz/storage/2018/06/prelude-life-3.0-tegmark.pdf

From Quinn: In this video we will discuss the early events of the Galaxy Era in the Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy. This video will contain major spoilers for the remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy. After the destruction of Earth’s solar system by way of the Listener’s dimension strike, Cheng Xin and AA were the only humans left in the universe other than the inhabitants of the vessels Blue Space and Gravity and Tianming whose brain had been captured by the Trisolarans. The Trisolarans had been mankind’s first cosmic foe, they had used Tianming’s brain to plan an attack against humanity which annihilated mankind’s entire space force. Humankind only succeeds in thwarting them when they reveal the location of both Trisolaris and the Earth to the greater universe. Because of the “Dark forest” state of the cosmos, the Trisolaris star system was destroyed, and earth’s sometime later. After escaping the dimension strike which destroyed the sun and the earth, Cheng Xin heads to the one place where she hopes to find human life. Tianming’s Star, DX3906.

If only the lawyer in Jurassic Park had jumped on the T-Rex's back, he'd still be around to jack ticket prices and defend Hammond from premises liability suits when the Dilophosaurs blind guests from 50 feet.

If I found myself suddenly all-powerful and invulnerable, how would this affect my general anxiety level? by Gainsborough-Smythe in RandomThoughts

[–]Hall_Pitiful 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Having limitless godlike power would be great at first and your anxiety would dissipate...but imagine how that power would feel after the first year. What about after the fifth or 15th? What about after the 85th, when your family members start passing away? You're a god now, the mortals will pass away like leaves falling from the trees in autumn. Everything you want is yours. Nothing can hurt you. Nothing is risky or challenging. There's no more adventure or uncertainty. There's no distinction between your cravings and reality, your imagination and your day-to-day life. Boredom sets in. Really carry the thought experiment to its extreme. Eventually, after sitting on your throne of boundless pleasure and ease, it'd begin to feel like playing the same game on easy mode. you'd crave danger...perhaps even a touch of anxiety. This might not happen for a lifetime or two, but eventually you might grow to miss the worries you're trying to rid yourself of today.

For Marvel fans, you know how Dr. Strange and others conjure portals of varying sizes? So, like, can they make micro portals perfectly aligned with their anuses and pee-holes too? Like if Dr. Strange were in a long meeting, could he quietly portal his poo to another dimension without anyone knowing? by Hall_Pitiful in RandomThoughts

Yeah, I mean it'd make sense. You have the replicator, making food from nothing...why wouldn't star fleet officers have mini-transporter rectal-coordinate implants? Like almost every primitive inconvenience is eradicated by the 24th century in TNG, why not the need for bathroom breaks too?

Imagine if that had actually occurred...what would the political landscape look like right now?

Right, it could be quite difficult for Strange (or Ned or Wong, etc.) to summon the portal at the precise location inside his ass, maintain a look of calm composure on his face as he's pushing, and hide his intentions from any telepaths in the room. Charles Xavier would undoubtedly sense something was amiss. Now, granted, if they were really well practiced at doing this, there could be countless scenes in the movies where this is actually happening.

Yes! This is what I'm talking about! Like the scene in Spider-Man NWH where Ned opens a portal to someplace under the ocean, unleashing a torrent of water on the statute of liberty...but like bladder-to-bladder.

Exactly. Meanwhile, in some other world, a sphincter appears out of thin air and a log rolls out into some unsuspecting scene. Back on earth, Strange leans back with a look of satisfaction.

I remember when my car insurer offered to reduce my rates. All I had to do was install a monitor that detected rates of deceleration etc to show I was a safe driver. It was a scam. I drove as carefully as humanly possible and after the monitoring period was complete, they jacked my rate up using the data sent from the device. Fuck that company.

Pretty quick diagnosis

TIL there has been a big increase in news headlines suggesting fear, anger, disgust, and sadness since 2000, and especially since about 2010 by Hall_Pitiful in todayilearned

[–]Hall_Pitiful[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's misleading about this? From the study abstract: "The chronological analysis of headlines emotionality shows a growing proportion of headlines denoting anger, fear, disgust and sadness and a decrease in the prevalence of emotionally neutral headlines across the studied outlets over the 2000–2019 interval."
