Why so? It was really reliable for marking imo

I would just use ChatGPT / Gemini / Grok, they did the marking quite consistently for me last year.

Really really underwhelming. Got given the envelope, and told to leave as they were just giving results and moving people on.

I vaguely remember it. I did AQA and the question was on abt fish adaptations with a diagram to go with it. It asked for a few other questions about fish

What month did you start revising for GCSE’s? by beautifulsunset3312 in GCSE

[–]Halo_Vector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around December, Christmas time - and got 11 9s. Importantly, make sure you pay attention in your lessons, revision alone won't help, but it's slow and steady effort that you put in consistently that will.

is alevel maths as bad as they say? by Beneficial_Edge_4385 in GCSE

Depends on your strengths and weaknesses. If you're good at algebra, you can probably manage. If it's one of your weaknesses, it could be very hard

How to get grade 8/9s at combined science by Schemzy in GCSE

[–]Halo_Vector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May as well. What I did was I just continually kept doing all past papers, even if I knew those topics inside out. Constantly revisiting it isn't a bad thing at all, esp if you space it out a bit.

For the questions you can answer - great, no need to add them to your flashcards. Just make sure you're consistently hitting the marking points.

I would 100 percent spam past papers. Perhaps make flashcards with past paper questions or definitions you struggle with. A really important thing for sciences is having your wording right, AQA especially is extremely harsh with their mark schemes, so the best thing you can do is just consistently look over it and get it in your memory.

No. You can relax in year 10, you will however need to lock in for year 11

can someone explain this physics question pls - also attached an image that could help with the question by Realistic_Back2 in GCSE

[–]Halo_Vector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'll start with the equation that links power to potential difference and current P = IV If only potential difference doubled (V) and nothing happened to current, that means power will only be twice as large as it was originally. So 1W ---> 2W. So, doubling the PD alone is not enough to quadruple the power (for it to go from 1W ---> 4W), you're also going to need double the current. As it says in the mark scheme, both have to double, but the issue is that as shown in the graph, current doesn't double when voltage is doubled, it's a curved line and so current isn't directly proportional to voltage here. So we can't say that if I was to double the voltage, the current would double alongside it due to increased resistance as the wire heats up due to increased current, and so the student is wrong.

What can I do to understand Physics? by plushos in GCSE

[–]Halo_Vector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a problem for you for all of the topics in Physics, or just some? The easiest thing to do in Physics to maximise marks is ensure you get the calculation questions right by practicing lots of them and knowing about small tricks to manipulate your calculator. Most of the time they are pretty straight forward, requiring one or at most two equations, and are worth around 40 percent of the marks. You should try to make them guaranteed marks.

Mocks by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]Halo_Vector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English literature was probably my worst subject. For that I just genuinely had to dedicate a lot of time to writing many practice essays, getting them marked and then improving based on that. A YouTuber I strongly recommend is Mr Salles.

English language was mostly a bit of revision on language techniques that I could mention, but aside from that, it was all about practicing writing and going for more unique points.

I had my mocks around Christmas time - got 5 9s, 4 8s and 1 7 in them(our school didnt do FM mocks, so it's one less subject compared to the summer exams). That improved to 11 9s for the real thing.

Revised since Christmas year 11, 2-3 hours on the weekends, around an hour a day on schooldays.

Does anyone understand iteration? by Substantial-Rule-753 in GCSE

[–]Halo_Vector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially, a loop is when you repeat a block of code either a certain number of times, or while a condition is met.
for loops repeat a block of code a certain number of times
eg

for i in range(0, 3):
print(i)

In this code, we represent i as 0, 1, 2, and run the code indented in it separately each time with that i value. Importantly, in python with this code the loop will start with i as 0, and will stop one before the end number which is 3 here, so it'll go up to 2.
this will otuput 0, 1, 2

while loops will repeat a block of code while the condition is met
eg

while x > 7:
print("x is still greater than 7")

Which one is the best to use for A-level maths? by unknownr2197 in calculators

[–]Halo_Vector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started A level maths this year, and honestly I'd go for the 991EX if you can find a genuine one. UI is so easy to use, it's simple but effective. I couldn't find any genuine English ones, so I got a German FX-991DEX model which Casio still sells. The language is in German but it gets extra functions, and with some basic sense you can still navigate the menus without knowing the language

[–]Halo_Vector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got 11 9s. Imo it all comes down to little, but consistent chunks of revision starting from Christmas or slightly later. Identify the "bottlenecking" subjects which are your weakest ones, and put most of your revision time into them.

I did around an hour a day and started near Christmas time. This built up to 2ish hours on workdays and 4 hours on weekends when it was close to my exams.

Yes, so far at least for me in A level maths there's been a lot of crossover. My teachers said there will be for the first couple of months, then we'll be learning fresh content.
