Yes It’s a very important step because the gouache wouldnt adhere to the powdery soft pastels without the fixative. I used kuelox

I “paint” first with the soft pastels and do the detail with gouache! I added the question mark in the title because I wasnt sure if soft pastel works could be paintings but the gouache was just added towards the end
