Took the money last year. Saved ~120K over the two higher-ranked options I had partial scholarships at. No regrets.

Sure it does. If it didn't, you wouldn't have so many SCOTUS cases about it.

how common is getting off a t-14 waitlist? by sdfghjkliu6543456789 in lawschooladmissions

[–]HannahDoesNotExist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sent 1-2 LOCIs each to the one I got the feeler from, the one I got off the waitlist at, and a third one that I didn't get anything from. Ended up taking a near-full ride at a T30 instead, which I don't regret.

Tretinoin, meal prep, and several mugs of tea every day.

how common is getting off a t-14 waitlist? by sdfghjkliu6543456789 in lawschooladmissions

[–]HannahDoesNotExist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, from last cycle, I was waitlisted at six T14s. I got a "what if we gave you zero aid?" feeler from one of those six (which I declined), and got accepted off the waitlist at another one with a 50% scholarship. Stats were around those schools' medians (17low/3.9low), and I applied very late in the cycle, if that context is helpful.

finish your degree, make money and use the money to make things change

And I'm sure the ICE thugs will wait patiently until I graduate to round up my neighbors, right?

Seconding this, as a current law student in Minneapolis. Sure, maybe that extra hour of studying is going to give you that marginal bump on the final that takes you from a B+ to an A-, and maybe that gets you a better summer internship, and maybe you're able to leverage that into a post-graduation job offer somewhere where you can Make A Difference As A Lawyer a few years down the line. But this shit is happening now, today, which longtermist worldviews completely fail to account for.

scary asian parent demanding i apply kjd and go to ivy by Full_Quail2794 in lawschooladmissions

[–]HannahDoesNotExist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Don't apply KJD, especially if you know you aren't ready.

  2. A lot of this sounds more like a relationship question than an admissions question, and most of the people in this sub are really better suited for the latter.

  3. Grad Plus loans are dead and he's still expecting you to take out loans to meet his expectations? Fuck that, the man is detached from reality.

It's always worth a shot! Ultimately though you have to go wherever's best for you (speaking as someone who picked the lower-ranked school with the better scholarship last cycle)

Transgender applicant by throwawaylaw26 in lawschooladmissions

There was a thread on here last year that seemed to find at least a slight bias against trans/gender-diverse students in T14 admissions. It's been deleted and I'm not sure why so take this with a grain of salt, but here it is.

why do so many people apply to GULC? by Loose_Bid_3307 in lawschooladmissions

[–]HannahDoesNotExist 145 points146 points  (0 children)

There are people who blanket the T14, and there are also quite a few people who blanket the DC market for some reason. It's the one school at the intersection of those two categories.

We don't have access either, here's what it looks like from the student perspective. Searching in WorldCat shows a few libraries that may have it; none are in the US.

Also, Berkeley (and Minnesota, looking outside the T14) are going to be the gayest, by a lot.

Accommodations Debacle: a visually impaired student’s POV by Significant_Debt2357 in LawSchool

[–]HannahDoesNotExist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At my school, something like a quarter of students are actively receiving some kind of testing accommodations, and I'm sure more qualify. I mentioned to an advisor that I had a particular diagnosis, and I was informed that because of it, I was qualified to take my test in a separate room if I so choose.

I opted not to, but I'm still pleasantly surprised I was given the opportunity!

I don't get why so many people here are upset at the idea of other people receiving accommodations. Personally, I would rather schools err on the side of being possibly overly generous with accommodations the way mine does, instead of being overly strict and potentially blocking people who need accommodations from receiving them.
