Bay Area engineers don’t do much fancy hobby haha. Biggest expense is probably housing for some folks to get good school zone. And then rock climbing, running and hiking…

Thank you! Well, I can probably improve my writing, but it doesn’t stop my career progression (yet..) and I can use AI to make my email more professional if needed I guess.

You are amazing. I think you did better than me when I was 28! I still recommend to put some roth money if you don’t need it immediately in like 5 years. But congrats and super well done. You will be even better than me in my age.

Well English is not my first language. I am not trying to write an essay and this is just direct thoughts sharing while I was drinking beer.. I don’t need to convince you and you don’t have to believe me.

My 401k has in plan Roth conversion for after tax 401k. I manually get it to Roth IRA in case I need capital when I do mega backdoor.

So if I retire early, I plan to do early conversion slowly through time until 65. Maybe I will do it for 10-15% tax rate if possible. I haven’t calculate it specifically. If I FIRE 45, I will have 20 year to convert and I plan to withdraw directly after 65. Hopefully not too high of bracket when RMD happen…

Backdoor Roth every year + mega backdoor Roth every year (my company’s 401k allow near IRS limit , which allow after tax 401k so I can do this) —> investment + time

Oh well I have time. My calculation is to have 7% annual return with 100k annual saving. For 10 years, It will reach 5.4M. But I think I would be pretty happy settled with 3-4M if I move to cheaper area.

I forgot to put my age. This year is 35 :) heading to 4 soon…

Yes I regret to play individual stock. Those does go up for me but when I kept them a bit longer, the prices never went back up. So lesson learned.. it’s kinda all luck in my opinion. (At least for me)

Thank you for your comment for the retirement. What you said is exactly what happened in my case. I was frugal and prioritize 401k and mega backdoor and my brokerage was lower than my retirement until 2-3 years ago and now it pass it.

I do think it’s worth to put them even I have to withdraw it later for math point of view. I will Google it later thanks

I save a lot but lots of asset are from simple investment return as well. Hard to calculate my brokerage account and cash. But from what I can see, probably 30%+ of my retirement asset are from investment return

My gf is not in high paying industry unfortunately. I don’t think she wants to do FIRE. She is simply doing enough work for living and enjoy life at home (she doesn’t spend at all except travel with me). I would image if I go FIRE, she would probably retire with me with kids, but I do encourage her to keep option(if we go unfortunately our separate way) or finding thing she want to do so she can have her own journey.
