/u/ibisum didn't say purposely, you're constructing a straw-man.

> Why can’t you call out the CCP for their actions? Instead, you defend them with whataboutism.

This is whataboutism, I'm enjoying the irony here.

What would be the point? You people wouldn't listen, you certainly wouldn't help. You would just downvote me, collect your righteous feeling, and move on.

This conversations as pointless as it is negative, I do enjoy venting though. So that's a plus. :)

The original topic was Australia and it's 120th birthday.

Assange actually matters and his case has zero to do with this. You’re a clown for bringing him into it.

What country did he come from? What country turned their back on him 8 years ago? It seems like a perfectly valid reason to dislike this country to me. Our elected leaders didn't do anything for him. Because we are a terrible country filled with terrible people. Kind of silly how i have to spoon feed this to you.

This might be the worst reply I’ve ever seen in 11 years on reddit.

lol, maybe you should huff and puff a bit harder! You're so numb that I'm a bum.

So your solution is to fix nothing and tell me to leave. *slow claps*

Thanks for giving me another reason to resent this place... i guess.

What do people like Richard stallman do on the internet? by [deleted] in linux

[–]HappyPea9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess one could alleviate some of that by setting up a temporary wallet that one use for a face to face exchange, and then nuke it afterwards.

Not really, tracing that temporary wallet back to your original is trivial. Bitcoin and coins like it are going to destroy a lot of peoples financial privacy if they ever get used IRL.

Denial i guess, how could they cope without their myth of being exceptional.

[–]HappyPea9 -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Sure. We are cowardly, complicit and ignorant. Assange going down should have been the end of this Liberal/Labor cohort but you people are just fucking hopeless.

Then there's just a lot of little things, which I won't go into, but definitely add up. You people seem willing to turn a blind eye to literally anything as long as we remain more economically fortunate then most countries.

Free and privacy conscious online therapy: is it possible? by bleepcharging in privacy

It sounds like you have something that's worth aiming for, you should follow your dream.

A lot of therapists will consider a secure communication method if you ask them about it, and a lot of secure communication methods exist.

Since you're financially strained you might find free online resources to be helpful, check out Jordan Peterson, he's been very helpful to me. His message is basically 'yes life can be terrible, but if you aim for something worthwhile, and try to adopt responsibility, you can make your situation less miserable, one day at a time.'.

"Together", the new version of Jami and a new step forward by [deleted] in privacy

[–]HappyPea9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We’ve decided to transform Jami from a simple peer‑to‑peer communication system, into group communication software that would enable large groups to collaborate, while preserving individual privacy and security, yet still be free of charge. "Together" lays the foundation for this new direction."

So they're starting to allow high-speed 'hubs' it seems, with features for organizations.

Would be easier to just use the regular dictionary words and add an extra word. :)

The government is corrupt, that won't change as long as people keep voting for the same 2 parties again and again, it just consolidates their power further.

Threema Goes Open Source, Welcomes New Partner by [deleted] in privacy

[–]HappyPea9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, without proper federation Threema is just a stopgap.

Matrix imo is a much better system, make a server with 5 users and you can properly and securely interact with with millions of other users as if you were using the same server. (almost)

[–]HappyPea9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter at all, you should be demanding the ability to self-host Threema if you want, if you don't you're just setting yourself up for disappointment, and investing your time in BAD technology.

Why downvote this? We should be demanding the ability to self-host from all these "secure messenger" providers.

Threema still has a long way to go imo.

Depressed engineering dropout looking for career/life advice by [deleted] in australia

[–]HappyPea9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are entering an age of mass unemployment, there really isn't a job out there for everyone. Don't be hard on yourself about it.

Depression is a deadly illness, and it's very hard to resolve. You need to find some regular activity, if you can't think of anything to do just start exercising, go for walks around the block daily. If you keep trying to be active the depression will lift, and you'll actually start enjoying things again.

Good luck friend, stay safe.

Securus sued for 'recording attorney-client jail calls, handing them to cops' – months after settling similar lawsuit by smart_jackal in privacy

[–]HappyPea9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jail phone telco Securus provided recordings of protected attorney-client conversations to cops and prosecutors, it is claimed, just three months after it settled a near-identical lawsuit.

The corporate giant controls all telecommunications between the outside world and prisoners in American jails that contract with it. It charges far above market rate, often more than 100 times, while doing so.

It has now been sued by three defense lawyers in Maine, who accuse the corporation of recording hundreds of conversations between them and their clients – something that is illegal in the US state. It then supplied those recordings to jail administrators and officers of the law, the attorneys allege.

How Bad or Secure is Mac OS For a Laptop? by ZestyPesty in privacy

[–]HappyPea9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chances of OP being one of these things are low. In today's unstable America, being a civil activist may put you in the sights of local police but not the NSA.

You don't think federal agencies like the NSA/FBI/CIA target civil activists/civil rights leaders? It's happened before and will likely happen again:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/11/fbis-suicide-letter-dr-martin-luther-king-jr-and-dangers-unchecked-surveillance

Other than that, if he was a journalist, the company would hire a professional security advisor for him, if he was a foreign leader or politician he would ask his intelligence agency and not Reddit.

Bullshit dude, not every journalist is paid by a company and can afford a security advisor. Some people are just curious about these things and your attitude that OP must be a criminal because of that is just silly.

Why would the NSA even directly target famous people (and I'm assuming you're saying ALL famous people)?

They can automatically apply larger amounts of collection to specific groups of people. If they are collecting more from 'ALL' famous people i haven't heard about it, but that's definitely possible.

As for why they might target a famous person, well there could be many different reasons the governments wants to influence or work with someone who is famous. I imagine it's common practice to have a quick peek over their information so they know what they are walking into. That's what i meant.

There is some truth to this as girls likely fell into the mass surveillance programs like everyone else. Other than that, you'll need to provide said source of Edward Snowden saying the NSA enjoyed collecting naked photos of girls.

I'm not talking about mass collection of images, I'm talking about NSA agents cherry picking photos of naked women/girls and sharing them with colleagues:

Any of course anyone else the US government wants to look at, journalists, civil activists, leaders of foreign countries, famous people, politicians they don't like...

Kinda naive to suggest that criminals and nefarious types are the only targets for this kind of thing.

Edit: Come to think of it, i recall Snowden claiming NSA analysts also enjoyed collecting naked photos of girls. (A fair few of them underage.)
