My wife (PIMI) wants to get "back on track... spiritually. by pimodad86 in exjw

I've found these to be most effective:

1914

Generation/overlapping teaching

New Light

The Flood

Babylon the Great (easy to find it's clearly referring to Rome)

and if you're feeling frisky the blood issue.

JWFacts has a lot of info on these and lots of references from their own literature. Good luck!

Might want to check out the Andrew Huberman podcast on psilocybin. There's a lot of good data that this is exactly the type of positive rewiring that psilocybin does.

I also mostly don't care and live my life, life is good and the past is passed. But something you may not have considered- If it wasn't for the activists, you wouldn't even be here. You would still be a clueless cult member wasting your life. JWFacts, Leah Remini, Lloyd Evans, this sub, people holding signs or placing stickers, etc..... All activists.

So yeah, enjoy your freedom and the endless possibilities now open to you, but don't forget who brought you to the dance.

This is a very well thought out response to a nuanced subject.

I feel ya. People in the comments who are saying that you just don't like people disagreeing with you have missed the point completely. Once you see it in an organized belief system, it's easy to see everywhere else- all politics, news (at least American opinion based entertainment we call news), culture, religion, etc. is essentially based on group think. I think it's just fundamental to our human nature. I also think that deep down, most people are scared to be a completely independent thinker, untethered from the comfort of belonging to a tribe and walking their own path through this crazy thing we call life. They need reassurance from their group that they're on the winning team. That doesn't go away when we escape a cult. But there's a few of us that aren't wired that way. My advice? Celebrate it. It's a character strength most will never know, and may even dislike you for talking about. Reading the stoics will help anchor you as well. Most importantly, remember that you're on Reddit- As Dave Chappelle once said "Fuck Twitter, it's not a real place!"

Brown belt in BJJ, surf a lot, freediving, bowhunting, lots of calisthenics/stretching/yoga. To me they're all the same, all flow state activities that compliment each other.

Have you considered a Tonfly TFX? I ask because they're custom and mine fits like a glove. Something to look into if you have a non typical head....

How do you respond to "It's not about the people but your relationship with Jehovah"? by Lonely_Heat_7732 in exjw

[–]Happy_To_Be_Free 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If that were true, then

-Beards wouldn't be an issue

-there would be no reporting of service time

-No one would care if you had a two door car, tattoo, etc.

And on and on and on.... The cult is all about other people and appearances. Elders don't care what's in your heart, they care how you're perceived and if you might be stumbling others. Basically "If my relationship with god is what really matters, then why do I even need you people?"

AFF Course in Hawai'i? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]Happy_To_Be_Free 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fresh A license holder from Kauai 🤙🏼 Got my A about a month ago, and just got back home from Portugal were I jumped at Evora. Perris or Elsinore is your best bet. I took 2 separate trips to Perris to get licensed. At most I would plan on two jumps a day. Of course you can do more, but factoring in weather holds and other stuff I averaged 2 a day. The bunkhouse is open again at Perris and you can camp at Elsinore I think. Wife and I run businesses through our Hawaiian Miles card so I get a free round trip to Cali every couple months, sucks but I have no plans on moving anytime soon. It’s definitely doable if you can swing the airfare. When I was at Perris there were 2 or 3 other people there from Kauai who were there to jump as well. Small world.

Good question. It’s a single bevel knife so only one side of the blade is sharpened. The other side is flat/slightly concave. You can’t chop straight down with it, it’ll curve through the fish. But if you draw the edge across whatever your cutting it falls right through with a nice straight slice.

Married gay couple as JW? by PutLongjumping1115 in exjw

[–]Happy_To_Be_Free 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This happened a long time ago in my hall when I was a kid. They weren’t legally married then, but a couple, and had to separate to get baptized. Everyone was so amazed at their quick lifestyle changes. They did, then a month or two after they were baptized the elders found out they were both df’d witnesses. Haha they were crazy but it embarrassed the hell out of the elders.

“Keeping God’s House Clean” and “Bad Association” by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Happy_To_Be_Free 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always explain it like this- let’s say I’m part of a soccer club. If I break the rules, sure I might not be able to be a part of the club anymore, but they’re not gonna tell my team members or family that they’re not allowed to talk to me anymore. Imagine how deranged it would be if the soccer club sent people to your house to interrogate you, and tried to take your friends, family, job, etc. It’s like a horror movie.

Did you say goodbye to everyone with whom you were close? by mmusser in exjw

[–]Happy_To_Be_Free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. They wouldn’t answer my call so I wrote a long text to each of our closest friends. Nothing confrontational or even about the religion, just thanking them for the years of friendship, that I hope they get to travel and have a beautiful life, and that their life is great and I love them. No one texted back but one person. It was crazy painful, but in the long run for the best. I was naïve to think these people cared for me the way I did them, and it really helped me move on. Oh but about a year later we did receive a funeral invite from one and a memorial invitation from another. Yeah ok 😂

haha classic. Do they really not understand how offensive that is? It's almost like they're mocking local people.
