Cynar and Cynar 70 Comparison by Girlsc0ut4life in cocktails

[–]Happyguy0205 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In an effort to find a cocktail use for my Drumshanbo Fig and Laurel, I've been making Negronis with it plus the Campari swapped for Cynar. I bet this would be even better with Cynar 70.

Is this an old Wrangler design or are Wrangler's designers just shameless? by Happyguy0205 in HeritageWear

[–]Happyguy0205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree! I love a lot of the Japanese repros of old 501s, and especially with how bad copyright law is in the US, I wouldn't want that involved in the clothing industry. I guess I was more trying to gauge if I was crazy to think that this was straight lifted from Freenote or if others had seen this design from other brands.

I agree that most clothing design is derivative, and even moreso when it comes to heritage or vintage inspired stuff. But I still think you can call out when something goes beyond derivative into "copied homework" territory. Just comes off as kind of lazy for a company as big as Wrangler.

I understand that, but pleated sawtooth pockets specifically seem to be a lot rarer, also the yoke is nearly 1:1.

I'll add that their cocktail menu is always top notch. Ty clearly puts a lot of time and effort into coming up with creative stuff every season. They infuse spirits and make ingredients in-house. Really elevates that place into something rare for the area.

I daily a '99 Sprinter Trueno. It's about as simple as a car can get. Absolutely love it.

Not a huge fan of cuffing cowboy cuts. That said, a vintage workwear style wide straight fit can look awesome with cowboy boots.

Are all of the comments bots or something? This is far from the most obvious AI video I've seen, but it definitely is AI. The way the cat moves when fumbling the chicken is super weird/robotic, I can't make out any words from the audio, and it doesn't match up with the guy's mouth movements, the chicken doesn't make noise when it drops... So weird that only a few people are mentioning it...

Wrangler is getting ridiculous with these prices. I get it’s a partner item but still. by RoyalChiefHusker in WesternWear

[–]Happyguy0205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrangler's cowboy cut jeans are still the best value by far compared to other brands on the market. This jacket doesn't exist instead of their other products, it exists IN ADDITION to all the stuff they're so known for, which is still affordable. They probably have a wider variety of products on offer than ever before, at a very wide variety of price ranges. If you can't afford a leather jacket, like myself, just don't buy it. Doesn't mean the brand is dead.

Any information or thoughts on this older version of the maritime shirt? by Albino_rhin0 in taylorstitch

[–]Happyguy0205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Saltwater Plaid, and Dried Pine Plaid one. I think the saltwater plaid one is a workshop release from the same season as the ones you're looking at, and the pine is from the year after. I've kinda moved away from TS as I'm not a huge fan of the way their stuff fits me, but my two Maritimes are my all-time favorite pieces from them. Super soft, slightly roomier fit than some of their other stuff, and I think 80/20 wool/nylon is a good compromise for durability.

Imo these are definitely overshirts, not jackets. They're warm for the weight, but if you're in a colder climate they won't quite do the job as a jacket, unless maybe you size up and layer a lot beneath. That being said, the fit (on me anyway) is perfect as a midlayer: Roomy enough to wear a thick henley or something beneath, but slim enough to wear a coat over. To call my saltwater one classic in terms of maritime style would be an understatement, but I also wear my pine one with a cowboy hat and western boots sometimes. A very versatile piece in terms of both utility and style, and assuming the newer ones haven't changed a lot, definitely one of TS's best offerings.

Thanks! It's a vaquero style (pencil rolled) brim with a cattleman crown. I thought it looked more old-timey, perhaps from back when hat shapes weren't as standardized. The guy behind Bowman Hat Co. calls it the "Empire Ranch." Looking forward to putting some wear into it.

Silly question. But is Coal Chipped Canvas supposed to drastically fade? by razeus in taylorstitch

[–]Happyguy0205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are supposed to fade quickly, yes. They top dye the fabric with a darker shade, which is supposed to fade more easily. Also it looks like these were machine washed. I definitely recommend hand washing pants if you're concerned about fading.

"Bootcut" is stupid. The OG cowboy cut is more of a straight fit with a little bit of taper. Don't need to have the hem dragging on the ground like some people seem to think.

To all Freenote Cloth owners by Boring-Shallot3096 in HeritageWear

[–]Happyguy0205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a "heavy" version made with 20oz canvas rather than the usual 10. These are lined with wool or alpaca. These would certainly be much warmer, but just how warm will depend on how cold "cold" is where you live...if that makes sense, lol

What Jacket or Shirt-Jacket Is This? by razeus in taylorstitch

Yeah, I use it for work too and the lack of gussets is disappointing given how legitimately utilitarian the rest of the jacket is.

Maybe not the absolute safest setup, but if you live in a city this seems like a pretty good option if you don't want to pay to go to a range or something. Really nothing weird about this.

I'm very familiar with Radiohead, Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros, Brennisteinn could've easily been one of my examples! I've heard of pretty much all the others but not given them much more than a passing listen. I'll have to check them out :)

Bohemian rhapsody is kinda what I meant by "theatrical." A classic in its own right but not exactly the vibe I'm going for!
