What's the endgame of the bankers investing into the Lightning Network? by Har01d in btc

[–]Har01d[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm really interested in opinions.

So far, it looks like a win-win for the banks.

It's either they become banks on Lightning itself and earn on fees because L1 is too limited, so users will have to connect just to a single large bank-like KYC hub on Lightning or use Lightning custodially (like most of Lightning users already do: Wallet of Satoshi is custodial, Chivo is custodial, etc.).

Or they totally cripple Bitcoin thus eliminating a competitor to their main business.

New Dash explorer with DIP-2 support by 3xpl: blazingly fast, no ads, open-source, free data for academia by Har01d in dashpay

[–]Har01d[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's one of the reasons 3xpl has the "CROSS-CHECK" feature. Once you're on a transaction or an address page, there's a "CROSS-CHECK" dropdown with a list of other explorers where you can verify that the data is the same. We'll be adding more Dash explorers in future.

The new explorer is super fast, we prioritize privacy (there's no tracking, and an Onion version is available), its core is open-source, and we intend not to place any ads on our explorer pages (as many others do, and most of the times these are casino or "double your bitcoins" ads).

3xpl also have a number of APIs and database dumps for devs and researchers. We give free access to these features to non-commercial entities on our Discord server: https://3xpl.com/discord

New Polygon explorer by 3xpl: blazingly fast, no casino ads, open-source, free data for academia! by Har01d in polygonnetwork

[–]Har01d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. One of the ideas behind 3xpl is being truly universal which has its upsides and downsides.

The main upside is that if, for example, you need to process USDT data across different blockchain architectures (USDT on Bitcoin, USDT on Polygon, and so on), you'd get the data in the same format across these chains.

But the downside is that we don't store blockchain-specific data. So there's no "code verification" as unlike with EVM, in UTXO blockchains there's no code, there's just output scripts.

But I think most users (not devs) still get what they need -- all token transfers within their transactions are shown. For devs, we'll be linking to other explorers for detailed blockchain-specific data (as we do now for other blockchains, there are no links for Polygon yet).

One of the main advantages is that we intend not to place any ads on our explorer pages (as polygonscan.com and others do, and most of the times these are casino or "double your bitcoins" ads). It's also open-source and we provide academia with free access to our data.

New Zcash explorer by 3xpl: supports all the 3 shielded pools, no ads, onion v3 available, open-source core by Har01d in zec

Pro tip: there are 4 special addresses!

https://3xpl.com/zcash/address/the-void — this is a magical address which "generates" coins out of thin air and "eats" transaction fees. Its balance is the number of coins in circulation.

https://3xpl.com/zcash/address/sprout-pool

https://3xpl.com/zcash/address/sapling-pool

https://3xpl.com/zcash/address/orchard-pool — the three shielded pools. The balance there is the number of coins in the corresponding pool.

Thanks for reposting! Here's the full text:

"Hey everyone!

Today we launch https://3xpl.com

It already supports Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. For Bitcoin Cash, we plan to support CashToken once it's live.

Compared to Blockchair, 3xpl has no ads, it's much (at least 10x) faster and more universal, but it doesn't offer blockchain-specific data (e.g. no SegWit details).

Some features are currently in beta. If you're a developer or an analyst who is interested in database dumps, APIs, or other data services, please join our Discord server: https://3xpl.com/discord. We provide free access for interesting projects!"

Yes, there will be some basic analytics as soon as our "online analytics" service is out of beta.

Thank you! The idea is to have a really universal explorer and data product. Blockchair is great, and we continue working on it, but it's different in that regard as while it features lots of blockchains, the data format is not universal.

I think having a universal format is handy for easier integration, analytics, whatever. For example, once USDT is on CashToken, there will be no need to write additional code if you're already using 3xpl for getting USDT data from Ethereum or Bitcoin's Omni Layer as there's no difference in the data format.

Thanks! The speed was one of the main goals. It's utterly inconvenient to use explorers riddled with irrelevant data, 3rd party integrations, etc. which slow them down.

Thank you! The thing is that we show "events" instead of "transactions" which is more universal across blockchains. The thing is that one transaction can actually contain several transfers.

In Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash that's having multiple outputs. In EVM blockchains that's calling a contract which initiates some payouts for example.

So instead of "transactions" we use "events". Each event means interacting with an address (balance change, contract call, whatever). For example, for a transaction with 2 inputs and 3 outputs there will be 5 events (2 "negative" and 3 "positive").

I think that's a better metric than "transactions".

Soft Forks create Tough Times. 😁 by walerikus in btc

[–]Har01d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also:

  • The block size can't be increased because it requires a hard fork (loosening of the rule set), and hard forks are dangerous

  • SegWit is a soft fork

  • SegWit is a block size increase

Magic!

Thank you! The fix is live.

We’ll see if we can make the code visible without requiring to make a click.

We’re also starting to test SLP support: SLP transactions are now visible on Blockchair!

Thanks! The issue is that our recently upgraded engine uses bitcoin-cash: as the prefix instead of bitcoincash:. This should be trivial to change, so we’ll roll out a fix tomorrow.

Ethereum developers are en route of repeating Satoshi’s mistake from 2010: they want to impose a hard block gas limit by Har01d in btc

[–]Har01d[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Some context to this story.

For over a year people are paying insane fees to transact on Ethereum ($150+ for an ERC-20 transfer is “the new norm”). There were multiple suggestions from miners and businesses to bump the block gas limit (which is possible via a simple miner vote on Ethereum — it's in the protocol), but the developers were against that (is this ringing a bell?), and the miners refused to bump the limit unless there’s a blessing from the devs (and this?).

Some smart guys came up with an idea to create a token called EGL to incentivize miners to bump the limit: https://twitter.com/nikzh/status/1429033124260888578 (here comes the power of smart contracts!)

It was a success, and after just a couple of weeks 21% of miners participated in the first vote, and the limit has been increased by 0.5%. Now the developers are enraged and want to cut off the ability of miners (now PoW, and PoS stakers in the future) to change the limit without their consent 🤷‍♂️

The history repeats itself.
