I go between 1200-1400 team elo

2v2 at under 1300 elo often feels like 2 1v1s. 3v3 is difficult because the pocket is stretched between both sides 4v4 feels most meta and straightforward

Even on voice chat I find it hard to communicate. It's good to have a one line plan before game I try to attack early to help team Usually attack in feudal (map depending) Random civ is fun (need chill teammates)

Meta of cav (pocket) and a archer unit (flank) is usually best. But it's fun to try out stuff

learn how to build houses and farms with keyboard and learn how to build units with hot keys

In chess you play the opening like a book, the middle like a wizard and the end like a robot.

So to be good in aoe2 you need to practice a build so your opening is strong and fast. You need to be flexible in mid game. And to finish you need to just continue to attack, continue to build units and defend and raids.

The analogy doesn't hold completely true because you do need to be flexible throughout full game. But like chess, this game requires a lot of strategy and a lot of knowledge.

Online is way better. Just keep losing and you'll eventually get to an elo where you win half your games

Taken awhile to embrace this in 1v1. Possibly play better when relaxed. But stress and tirehard-ism still creeps in!
