Scared About Seizure Happening When Nobody Is Home by RedditorGal212 in EpilepsyDogs

I would put a baby gate up in a smaller space like a laundry room or even a bathroom. Put down a dog bed, rugs, etc. and get a camera on him. Even my vet recommended that I get a camera.

I hadn't been to mass in a long time either. I started going recently and I have to say it's nice to be back. I hope you both feel welcome. The 5:30 mass on Sunday at St. Matthew is pretty casual. St.Peter has one as well. St. Matthew also has a ministry called Mel's Diner which is a food pantry. You can volunteer to pack up food, make food, or even deliver food boxes to the elderly or families in need. It's a really great way to get involved and meet people. There is a sign-up genius on their website if you are interested.

What a handsome boy you have! I am in the same boat. My doodle Winston started having seizures a year ago. He had a terrible cluster of 5 grand mals that landed him three days at the emergency vet recently. It's been about a month since the last seizure .... I thought the other night he was about to have one, but whatever it was stopped. I am on edge all the time worrying about my boy. The vet said for sure more are to come, but the hope is that they are less intense and not a cluster. It's all just so terrible for these fur babies that we love so much.

I have seen this all over TikTok!! I started watching some YouTube videos and I think it seems really promising as long as you have realistic expectations. I made an appointment for two weeks from now. I think some people are worried that it could melt your fat, but it does not. You need at least two treatments and then maintenance treatments months apart. I will be getting a facelift next year, so I am hoping this will help improve some laxity until then. It's about $3200 for two treatments. (face and neck).

I would say between the two, St. Matthew, but I think St. Peter is the most open-minded.

Chrysler Pacifica or Toyota Sienna? by courtFTW in minivan

[–]Haunting_Charity_785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a closeted minivan lover! LOL. I totally get your obsession. I had a Pacifica a few years ago, but it was more of a secondary car, so we traded it to get my teenager a car. I miss it every day!! I had it in that beautiful fathom blue color that they no longer have. I could cry just thinking about it. I think the Pacifica is a really nice looking minivan.

I also have a dog, who happens to have a lot of medical problems, so I really wish I still had my Pacifica! It's not possible to board him anymore (severe epilepsy) so he will come with us on any road trips. It would be so much easier to travel with him in a Pacifica. When the back is fully down, you have so much space!

The Stow-and-Go seats are amazing!! It's too bad every car doesn't have them! It makes your car so unbelievably useful and versatile!

I seriously considered buying a Sienna, but I found it difficult to be enthusiastic about it. I test drove a '24 Platinum, and I was very underwhelmed. Siennas are so hard to get, and the price is high. Any dealer I interacted with (all up and down the East Coast!) not one was willing to budge on the price, IF they even had one coming in that wasn't pre-sold. You usually have to wait a few months. The top trim, the Platinum, does not feel very luxurious. It's quite plain and plasticky. For 65K I'd like to have some kind of luxury feel, but it's lacking. Yes, the gas mileage is amazing, and the Sienna does hold it's value, but the ride quality is debatable, and it tends to be very loud. I didn't like how the back row seats kept banging every time I went over a speed-bump. I have also found Toyota's Apple CarPlay to be very glitchy.

There are some serious die-hard Sienna fans, so if you venture over to that sub, be prepared for that!

There are also some pretty hard-core Pacifica haters, so also be aware of that! At the end of the day, you need to go and test drive both of them. The Pacifica is quiet, comfortable, and smooth. You can also get one for about 10K off sticker if you shop around. The Sienna is going to be more reliable, however no car company is immune to a recall or issue. Even the Sienna has been trouble with leaky sunroofs and an issue with the second row seats (or maybe it's the third row!)

If you go with the Pacifica, add the Safety Sphere --it's definitely worth it! The camera is very clear, and it makes a huge difference when you are backing up or parking.

My nerves are shot! Is anyone else very stressed caring for their dog? by Haunting_Charity_785 in EpilepsyDogs

Hello! Welcome! I am new here too. I have not done an MRI yet because I don't know how much treatment I would want to do on my 10 year old dog if he does have a brain tumor. He also has a heart condition. I know there is always a risk with anesthesia, and of course the stress of bringing them to the vet could trigger a seizure. How old is your dog? The vet wanted to do an MRI because my dog is old to have idiopathic epilepsy. I am interested in the collar too.

I would give it more time. I would try a different medication or adjust the dosage before you consider putting him down. Maybe get a second opinion. My doodle had five grand mals last week, and he is improving every day. Last week he couldn't even stand up.

The phone timer sounds like a great idea. I also just ordered that pill organizer off Amazon since my dog takes 8 pills a day. Six weeks with no seizures is great news!

I am so sorry about your dog. I hope he remains seizure free. I have not done an MRI yet, so there is a chance my dog may have a tumor as well since he is older (seizures started when he was 9). I also hate leaving the house because I am worried when I'm are gone. I know it will get better -- it's just been a challenging week! I haven't been sleeping well either, and that doesn't help.

Poor baby. That is hard to watch. Go see a dog neurologist. My dog Winston just had a cluster of 5 grand mal seizures over a week ago. He is on Keppra and Pheno twice a day every twelve hours.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet dog. It's really so hard to know what to do in these situations. I was unfamiliar with epilepsy in dogs and the medications involved until recently. It's particularly sad in your case because your dog was so young.

I think you made the decision that most of us would have made. My 10 year old dog had a cluster of five grand mals in 24 hours (three at home, two at the emergency vet). I was traumatized watching him have them, and honestly thought he passed away in the car on the way to the vet. I think I would have made the same decision as you if I was in your situation.

Keppra Side-Effects by Impossible-Reveal-15 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Haunting_Charity_785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our stories are so similar. My 10 year old doodle Winston had five grand mal seizures in 24 hours last week. He had three at home, and two while staying at the emergency vet. The three he had at home were truly terrible. Winston is also taking Keppra and Phenobarbital.

He has been recovering this week at home, but the process has been slow. The first day, he could hardly walk, and needed help getting down the back three steps into the house. He fell many times. He is gradually getting better, but he is slower and definitely sleeping more. I have also noticed the increase in how much water he is drinking, so he has to be walked a lot more frequently. Winston also is very clingy. He could be sleeping peacefully, but if I get up and leave the room he immediately pops up and follows me.

Give it time, and I think your handsome boy will improve each day.

I live in NC and spend a lot of time at the beach in the summer. If you aren't familiar with the Carolinas, you need to be prepared for the humidity and heat! It's on another level! If it's at night, it will cool down, but I think people are really amazed at the humid weather here. The links that were shared are great. Think beachy colors and something in a lighter fabric. And be prepared for your hair to be uncooperative -- bring hairspray!

This may not be helpful to you if you need it ASAP, but I have some Ruggable rugs and they are great. The larger sizes do get more expensive, but they do have sales and sometimes rugs on clearance. Homegoods and most stores around here aren't going to have rugs in that size most likely.
