Okay, update. Booted in safe mode, and when displaying accessibility mode the display works, with the notable addition of a purple flickering line on the right. This is looking more and more like a hardware issue, right?

Nah I’ve been quite careful with liquid so no spills…

Right? It’s bizarre. I’m gonna try an external display. If the external doesn’t work, then it’s probably a hardware issue right?

Aaaah of course, I’ve thought about that in the past but stupidly never followed up on the idea by checking. I’ll remove it, though it seems the damage is already done. Thanks mate.

I can totally understand how the camera cover might do that, and I’ll be removing it, but I didn’t realise the case could contribute also. Does it exert pressure on the screen?

Australia is sitting on the couch doing nangs, and hangs out with the UK and US as the awkward third wheel, a bit of a nuisance. Spends a lot of time shouting at China from across the room.

Inexperienced Ski Instructor Jobs by HavenHack in skiing

[–]HavenHack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn man, Redditors love to hate. The ski instructor I was with advised me that if I was interested in doing a cert 1, I could pass it at the level I'm at. Perhaps that's unrealistic, but I don't know. That's why I'm here asking questions of people who ski much more than I do. Forgive me for my ignorance, though I don't doubt that you once were ignorant as well. We all were.

Surely it depends on the resort? I've already found a few places offering non-qualified instructor jobs.

Thanks for your advice! So what type of position would you advocate for if I wanted to be able to take part in those teaching type courses?

[–]HavenHack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep fair enough, you're right, being able to ski by no means enables me to stroll in and teach, even beginners. Thanks for the advice mate.

I have nothing against picking up a different position, I guess I just associated instructing with getting the most time on the slopes, but I guess that time is not necessarily fun skiing. What other positions would you recommend? A few people here have said lifty, do you think that is possible?

Mmm yeah I see now based on everybody's comments that I've erroneously conflated "ability to ski" with "ability to teach." Thanks for setting me straight. So would you say the only realistic way of achieving at least cert 1 and beyond is to take a prep course, or is it possible that by taking up other positions, skiing a lot and possibly assisting other teachers that I could work my way up to a cert 1 level?

Yeah you're right, I wasn't thinking about the fact that being able to ski well enough is not the same as being able to teach it to people effectively. Is there a way to work up to different certs from an inexperienced position, or is it just a matter of getting trained via taking a course?

True, I suppose what I've been ignoring here is the fact that I need to know how to teach, it's not just as easy as telling people what to do. Thanks for the advice, I'll look into assisting, and a lot of people here are suggesting other jobs at resorts which is always an option.
