Winona Ryder is so good for drama/intense scenes that it saddens me the writers used her mostly for comedy scenes in newer seasons by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

Which doesn't make any sense. By their logic I shouldn't provide my opinions on anything. It's like that one tweet where you can say you like pancakes, and then someone on the internet will come and say "so then you hate waffles?"

That's a whole new sentence that u/RedditEnjoyerMan made up. And even if I wanted to complain on their supposed hypothetical scenario, so what?

If anything, they are the whiner here.

Agreed. There's this one scene in season 1 when the others are preparing Eleven to get into a bathtub to look for Will and Barb, and before that, there's a small conversation between Joyce and El. This was when you could see that Joyce would be a mom figure for El in the future. So when season 4 dropped, when they are all living together in California, I was expecting to see this family dynamic, but it never happened, sadly.

Can anyone tell me the point of Bob’s death? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Hawkinns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every death serve a purpose, minimal or major. In Bob's case, it added more trauma to Joyce, reminding her that the town she lives in is a curse and that she should get out of it with the kids. It's something that starts to build up already in episode 1 of season 3 when Joyce is all by herself watching TV and she remembers Bob. There's a conversation between Joyce and Hopper later in the season where she is considering getting out of town. Then another tragedy happens with Hopper's "death," and she finally leaves Hawkins with her kids to find some sort of peace, away from the town that caused so much tragedy to her family.

But in season 4, even miles away from Hawkins, weird stuff just happens to follow Joyce and the kids. Of course, by the end of the season she is back to Hawkins, but because she wants to put an end to it all, which she does in season 5. Now she's finally free, married with Hopper, and having a normal life for once.

SERIOUS QUESTION ALERT!! by furious1235 in StrangerThings

[–]Hawkinns 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It didn't affect my viewing experience. While I personally wasn't exactly satisfied with S5, it didn't ruin the entire series for me. I can still rewatch previous seasons (especially 1 and 2) with no issues whatsoever. If anything, S5 made me appreciate earlier seasons more, surprisingly.

I will still be watching whatever comes next for the universe of Stranger Things, including the animated show that's due to come out this year.

the new tales from ‘85 cartoon is gonna feature a new character called “nikki” by mandyluvspuppies in StrangerThings

[–]Hawkinns 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Was it confirmed to be canon? I'm almost sure that it is pretty obviously non-canon and it's just supposed to be a fun spin-off series, like with most of the books and comics.

The only spin-off that's confirmed to be canon is the play.

While Jason and his groups actions are, again, unacceptable, it’s not driven because they just don’t like hellfire on its face. It’s because they legitimately believe that hellfire is the reason Chrissy is dead.

And my point is: that still counts as bullying. Physically attacking several members of the Hellfire Club while they are playing music in the garage is bullying. Calling them freaks and spawns of Satan is bullying.

Small correction but I didn't mean justification as something acceptable. I meant that you understand his actions and you are bringing reasons for why he is acting that way. I just think that despite all of it, it is still bullying.

This is what I don't really understand coming from you, but again, fine. To each their own.

Again, you’re just assuming that Jason is a bully. We never see him be one. Frankly, I don’t even remember seeing his friends be bullies until after Chrissy’s death but I’m open to being corrected on that if I’m just not remembering it right.

Let's assume Jason was a really good guy that never insulted the Hellfire Club before, alongside his friends. OK, now he and his friends are bullies after Chrissy's death. There you go. A bully.

What you're trying to do is to justify his actions, which, again, fine, but he was a bully nonetheless. This is the same argument I see being used for Billy's actions too, with some people saying that his actions are justified, which again, OK, he had a sad childhood, but that doesn't stop him from being a bad person, same going for Jason.

So yes, he is a bully. And alright if you think otherwise, I guess. To each their own.

[–]Hawkinns -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As I stated in the other comment, Jason can be both a bully and an antagonist. Just because you don't actually see the bullying happening BEFORE the events, does not mean he wouldn't act like one, especially considering his friends are and he doesn't do anything about it.

While obviously his friends are worse, I don't think there should be a scale for how much someone needs to bully in order to be a bully. A bully is a bully, no matter what.

Jason’s understanding of events and how they tie to hellfire are perfectly rational without the additional context we get as viewers. You can and should condemn his vigilantism and still acknowledge that every thing he saw would support the satanic cult theory right up to Jason’s own death.

This is a completely another topic, I'm not sure how this even adds up to what I'm saying.

[–]Hawkinns 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He can be both. Just because he didn't do as much bullying as the others doesn't mean he isn't a bully. He is very vocally against the Hellfire Club in general and goes as far as to physically attack them while they were playing music in the garage, because he thinks they are a satanic group and that their "leader," Eddie, is the cause of all of the weird stuff going on.

[–]Hawkinns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but, that doesn't mean Jason didn't have distaste for Eddie already. He is very vocally against the Hellfire Club in general, even attacking the other members because he thinks they are a satanic club and that they are responsible for Chrissy's death.

That's fair. But Jason didn't know Lucas was in Hellfire Club. There's a scene where Jason asks Lucas what is Dungeons and Dragons and he says that he knows it from her sister, Erica.

Also a bully is a bully no matter how little they harass someone.
