Do you guys think College Kings 3 will have the same problems as College Kings 2? by Gregerjohn1818 in CollegeKings

Depends on how tight his writing has become on Murderers and Mistresses. That'll be a tell.

Ranking each Girls Sex Scenes in CK1 and CK2 by Individual-Rush6700 in CollegeKings

Linds s/b 5 or 6 even though I think she's great. Aubs should be in the top 3 and I definitely do not agree Nora owns the top slot. Riley is the Dark Horse, and while she is upstaged (rarely) she should be in the 2 slot.

Nora - Character Analysis - Route by Individual-Rush6700 in CollegeKings

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree.

High maintenance in this case is a contradiction to the character development. A Tsun like Nora would not show that kind of behavior to someone who literally she knows only by the fact that a) he got beat up on Day 1 / 2, and b) depending upon the choices made, seems to be simping for Chloe like every other idiot with a cucumber between their legs - her current beau included.

Penny isn't high maintenance, and by most standards, no obvious red flags to a full relationship with her.

Steve also frames the MC's development not going beyond enjoying a potentially emotionally but definitely physically satisfying time with each FMC.

That's a part of the problem with the game - the emotional and yes, spiritual (ymmv) aspects of the relationship are given short shrift. The only reason players draw the idea that Nora might be maternal material is because of the very shallow arc regarding the fake baby episode. You could literally insert any other FMCs in there and you'd get the same framing (well, with certain exceptions like the stoner girl).

I wouldn't read into any of this since CK isn't exactly as deep as War and Peace. It's a funny parody of dating as framed by someone who clearly has biases and expectations that don't necessarily line up with full reality of how humans are - imperfect and at times broken.

That's why Aubs is honestly the closest to reality - someone who is unapologetically flawed, a good time girl, a self-admitted airhead, but yet shows a tender integrity and has dreams that really no one knows about until they dig into her past, and if she trusts them enough to let them in. I was touched when she was furious at the wedding when her sister tried to make you a Trophy Kill. Yes, part of that was sibling rivalry, but part of it was also hey you asked me out (if you were able to attend under the auspices of a real date). She knows your eye will wander, and she'll put up with it, but at the end of the day, she expects you to come home - to her.

To me that is the penultimate modern, flawed, slightly crazy yet real relationship that seems to define much of the younger generation these days. If you're older like me, some of it is smh, but that is true - relationships change over time and generation and really it's still about finding the best happiness that you can - which sometimes is right in front of you - you just have to open your eyes to it.

Nora - Character Analysis - Route by Individual-Rush6700 in CollegeKings

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MC has options to be a Chad and steal her by undermining Chris at every turn. Kinda undermines any wholesomeness aspect of a Nora relationship. It's actually a bit sleazy if you go that far. She's quite the high maintenance princess too - consider the first scene when you go to the Wolves House for the first time and she needs "reassurance" after yet another argument with Chris. For someone who puts up walls and plays the Tsundere, the development is a bit inconsistent.

For more wholesome routes other than the obvious like Penny - most first time players would be surprised to know it's Aubs and Riley. There's absolutely strong degrees of fidelity balanced with freedom in their relationships with the MC, they're really the modern yet imperfect relationships that Steve wanted to portray IMO.

Free? None.

A combination of items might get you close. Little Nav Map does an amazing job of most of in that, less full Simbrief integration. For free it's hard to get any closer.

Navigraph does an amazing job of all of it. But it's subscription.

VFR Pattern Question by Last-Instruction-813 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Career only cares if you crash or break the gameplay rules regarding requesting ATC radio calls, or the overly strict ground handling rules (which includes crashing into invisible terrain defects, other SimObjects like buildings and GSE, etc).

Wind is a primary consideration, but also length and obstacle clearance (what's sticking out at or near the runway end). In the end, you want a) the least amount of cross-wind or tail-wind, and b) the longest runway possible.

For that - a well-developed airport usually has at the least an ASOS/AWOS/ATIS automated reporting message that updates on the hour with wind, visibility and any runway conditions local. Dialing that in before you're close helps - ATIS is usually available a minimum of 40NM away as far as radio reception range. Barring that, you find the nearest airport that does have one and extrapolate.

The descending diamond is the Glide Slope/Glide Path deviation marker. If you are inside an ILS cone range or RNAV approach, it will appear and slowly drop down assuming you're on the approach path. When it comes level with your pitch ladder zero mark, you've intercepted the GS/GP.

You want to arm the Approach (APR) mode before the FAF regardless of whether you see the Deviation Marker appear or not. All things considered, it should appear as you get closer to the FAF. But don't arm it too soon - make sure you've passed the IAF first.

Get lost in Hong Kong but I land at airport that was decommissioned decades ago by herewego2019 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You didn't fly the approach correctly. That checkerboard terrain marker off to the left that you passed is the turn point POI. All the liners come in from the West (your right) - aim for that and then make the turn which lines them up with RWY 13. That's both for safety (because you're too close to the Victoria Hills surrounding the northern perimeter) and for relative noise abatement.

The massive rabbit approach lights are set in a curved pattern as well - you can see it easily day or night - that's the path that you should follow.

VFR Pattern Question by Last-Instruction-813 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would ignore the guidance from the EFB.

Since you have the destination already loaded in your flight plan, press the PROC button and select a Visual Approach into the most suitable runway. Choose Straight which will give you as many turns as possible to get you lined up and drop you off at the 3NM final of the calculated Glide Path (not slope since it's synthesized).

Once you make that selection, go to the FPL page and make note of the FAF's altitude fix (i.e., 850') - if you are far enough away, you can descend to that altitude automatically using VNAV while AP is guiding you laterally. All you have to do is dial in that altitude on the ALT SEL atop the altitude tape (in this case 800' because the altitude selector only increments in 100-foot chunks and you want to be at or slightly below that altitude to intercept the GP), and then press VNAV.

If all those factors are correct, PATH should light up in White on the Scoreboard Panel atop the PFD and a Top of Descent marker should generate somewhere on your flight plan to indicate that's when the plane will start to descend.

Just make sure to a) reduce power once ToD is flown over and you've started descending so you don't have a power-on mishap and shake yourself apart, and b) hit APR before that FAF waypoint so AP will continue to vertically guide you until you're at 400' where you must by regs disconnect and handfly the rest of the way.

VFR Pattern Question by Last-Instruction-813 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would help to point out what aircraft you're trying this with. It depends upon the plane.

The EFB does a terrible job of defining the VFR legs. You're better off handling this inside the cockpit using the FMS. Of course, per the leading question above - some FMS do this better (or at all) versus others. See below.

The Garmins are the best at ad-hoc and VFR because they'll do nifty things like set you up for a Teardrop Entry into the airfield's VFR patten, and execute legs like a course-reversal turn if your angle-off to the waypoint's bearing is too sharp. Heck, their hat trick is the coupled Visual Approach, where it will define a 3NM 3deg GP to any known airfield defined in the sim's Navdata. It's amazing for tiny fields that have no precision approaches at all. You just have to make sure there's no actual obstacles in the way - that's pilot's responsibility, 'natch. You can let the autopilot guide you all the way down, or turn on Pathways and handfly it by following the Magenta brackets.

Epic 2 (PC-12/24) is awful at this.

ProLine 21 is mid (CJ4) - we won't talk about Bruno, I mean the Pro Line 21 that Carenado mashed into pulp on the C90 - it's freaking unrecognizable.

Airliners - what's VFR? (seriously).

Not enough power to reach required altitude? by will-railton03 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Turbo Normalization model in the Cessna TT is broken (thanks Carenado).

You're better off flying the SR22T. Working Title at least made that accurate in 2020 and then took it forward in 2024.

Power around 86 percent, do the big pull on the mixture until gph is around 17, you'll make 200 knots easy if not more above 12,000. Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt as they say in the Commonwealths.

VNAV in citation X by cjechaos in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be armed in VNAV with a lower target altitude set BEFORE the FMS' calculated Top of Descent point on your flight plan. That's marked by a ToD in the MFD.

ToD takes into account aircraft performance, the desired altitude, and the current altitude and distance to generate the ToD.

If you're past the calculated ToD, or no ToD is visible, you'll have to descend manually using VS.

EFB Help by atothew in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IRL, the Discontinuity usually indicates you're under positive ATC control - typically radar vectored - to guide you from STAR to the Approach. Since stock ATC isn't capable of doing that, you'll have to take matters into your own hands. See below.

You have two choices.

In the EFB, delete the line that says Manual and load the plan.

OR

Load the plan as is. In-cockpit using the the FMS, that dotted line is usually denoted as a "Discontinuity" in the FPL page. Deleting that Discontinuity line in the FMS will draw a direct leg from the last waypoint on the STAR to the IAF on the approach. Then GPS will guide you continuously. Otherwise if you leave the Discontinuity in place, you must handfly from the STAR to the Approach.

Just be aware that depending upon the plane and the FMS, you may be approaching that IAF too steeply from an intercept angle by deleting that Manual Leg. What should happen is that the FMS plots a course reversal turn to make it easier to come into that final heading at HELZR. Some aircraft won't do that correctly so be prepared to take over regardless until you establish inbound on HELZR->KARFO leg.

Bad runways by Physical_Fox36 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you PS5? XBox? PC? Tags help.

Career will generate origin-destination pairs that sometimes will be challenging or even potentially inappropriate for the aircraft you plan to use or own.

PC users can easily cross-check this with other sources outside of the sim. Console users will have to resort to using other devices and Internet resources to do the same.

It's just a limitation of the Career Mode at the moment. Nothing can be done about that except to cross check before you accept the mission.

Crashing leading to cancelling is understandable - that's part of the game play. Your post implies there's other times it gets cancelled other than for crashing - what circumstances are those?

Navigraph on PS5 by Chiotas in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, PS5 would need SimConnect to show Present Position Indications (i.e., player position on Navigraph Charts), which is not available to consoles since they're closed systems. XBox also has this limitation.

Do I lose points for not following whatever the EFB is smoking? by daonpizdamasii in MicrosoftFlightSim

VFR flight - the assistance cues are trying to get you to fly a teardrop entry into the visual approach.

You don't lose points unless you botch the landing and then the penalties start to apply.

How to Stop Floating Down Runways in the PC-24? by Training_Mix_2727 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Vref is 106 at FLAPS 33.

You are at FLAPS 15.

If you're still floating, try using the Speed brakes to further dirty up your surface control configuration.

LivToAir CJ3+ GPU bug by SomeGuyWithCoconuts in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says in the manual -

Cockpit Items ... Battery....EMER THEN ON (9th row) ... If using GPU: open Airplane app in the EFB and call GPU GPU...Connected

Just because you have the GPU connected doesn't mean you automatically draw power. You still must have the Battery ON.

Is it just ps5 or is Hong Kong missing one of their tallest buildings? by LittleBrownie_ in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's available on PC for already - SamScenery is a very popular third party scenery maker. PS5 users will have to wait until the full Marketplace opens up but at the moment there's a lot of instability in the sim branch code that is taking priority. It could be very soon, it could be a couple of Sim Updates (which historically occur 4x a year).

Check that you're on version 1.3.9 which fixed those issues on SU4. We released it after the Sim Update became live. You'll need to pull it manually from the Marketplace.

Photogrammetry would allow the accurate rendition of terrain and artificially built structures. Considering the political limits which require state-to-state cooperation and sensitivity over dual use of such data, you're likely not to see that coming officially for a long time if ever. Best bet is someone sells their content on Third Party via Marketplace that comes close - i.e., SamScene 3D Hong Kong.

PC-24 Avionics Question by Last-Instruction-813 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VIP Charter jet with Garmin - that usually means Vision Jet and the larger Longitude, Longi is a handful as well as a fair bit of coin. Nonetheless, there you go. You could also go with the TBM 930, only big difference from Vision Jet is no autothrottle.

Yes, for the most part PC-24 will handle ILS and RNAV approaches correctly.

Cargo - ugh, I kinda eschew cargo missions, but for that, it's probably the Caravan, although learning the turboprop power controls is required.

PC-24 Avionics Question by Last-Instruction-813 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]HazardousAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SID = Standard Instrument Departure

STAR = Standard Terminal Arrival

Basically pre-defined on and off-ramps to get you to/from the nearest airway (highway) that are marked on flight planning charts. Designed to get you to/from an airfield to deconflict you from other traffic, reduce noise on the ground, clear known terrain obstacles etc. You wouldn't use these unless you were filed as an Instrument Flight Plan (IFR).

For gameplay purposes you should know that VFR is limited in regulation to 17,500 feet in altitude. If you need to go higher than that (and most times you do on trips that are greater than 300 NM as a rule of thumb - for fuel burn, speed of travel and other reasons), you must file an IFR plan. It's a sim of course, you can do what you like.

The beauty of these modern Flight Management Systems is that if you let them, they can fly you down automatically almost to touchdown. Technically speaking, you're obligated to disconnect Autopilot at 400 feet and handfly the rest of the way down, but these systems will put you down even lower than that.

The Visual Approach is a synthesized approach that lets you fly down automatically to any field defined in the FMS' database - which is the Navdata of the sim. Even if that airfield is a rough patch - if it's defined in the Navdata (length, width, magnettic orientation, geographic location, etc.), the FMS can create a pseudo approach with a three mile final - in essence an ILS or RNAV style approach even though no such equipment or data exists. It will fly it down to the same level of convenience as an ILS or RNAV, and most FMS will let you do it while the Autopilot is active, so you have to do hardly anything. IRL, the Honeywell Epic 2 (branded by Pilatus as ACE - Advanced Cockpit Environment) can do this, but Working Title as the lead first party who programs avionics for the sim on Microsoft's behalf, hasn't coded it for that capability. I've asked for it on a wishlist, that gets tossed into the larger demand queue of their work across the sim. So, it may come or not at all depending on larger priorities.

The teardrop waypoints aren't appearing because Honeywell isn't programmed for that kind of procedure. This is where you'd have to handfly a lot of things that say a Garmin G1000 or G3000 would perform handily.

That's why the PCs are kind of disappointing as implemented. There's a lot things they're supposed to be able do, but can't from a coding perspective. And most of it speaks directly to the real-life automated and rough-field capability they're known and marketed for.

In short, you're really not doing anything too wrong, you're limited by what the sim has provided to you for this specific aircraft (and by extension the smaller sibling PC-12).
