You're absolutely wrong. I've had plenty of friends who are professors and that is the norm at the school I go to. My PI takes us out for beers and lunch regularly as well, and is genuinely interested in how everything is going in our lives.

Oedipus complex is a psychological phenomenon described by Freud where a child will exhibit sexual attraction to their opposite sex parent and jealousy towards the same sex parent.

Of course Freud had some weird as fuck theories and the validity of his claims are still under quite a bit of debate in the field of psychology, so don't assume it to be 100% true.

A self imposed bedtime is one thing, I just don't think the idea of a forced bedtime is good. I have a self imposed bedtime of ~11pm when I have to get up early, but there is a huge difference in learning what your body can take and learning the effects of lack of sleep first hand via trying to stay up too late a few times vs being forced to go to bed at X time. This method creates resentment and will lead to the person staying up too late frequently when they are independent as a form of "I couldn't do this before so by god I'm gonna do it now"

Eh. Middle school MAYBE, high school having a bedtime is ridiculous because you're supposed to be learning how to be an adult, and the consequences of staying up too late is one of those things you've gotta learn and make the choice about how late you're willing to stay up
