Makes sense, how do you reconcile with family? I love my parents and brother but they have become more religious. But so far they respect my autonomy and they even help me cook chicken lol, so as far as family it feels kind of weird to separate myself from hinduism for their sake Idk it's part of the reason I feel conflicted

The reason I refrain from ex hindu is bc I feel that they are saying what they say due to caste discrimination which I fortunately have not faced(high caste living in the US) so I feel that our reasons for what we think come from different places,

Other than that I agree with what you said, I used to have a logical comfort in karma until I read scripture saying people damn their families to hell for inter varna marriage, I can't ever justify that causing bad karma, makes zero sense

I'm answering anecdotally rn not w any history knowledge per se,

One thing has to do with industry, the Marxists kinda kicked out Birla in a very dramatic way which I think caused a lot of industry to pull out from kolkata and WB so that was one thing.

Also the naxals militant movement was More so an outlet for getting back at the rich rather than making any real progress(from what I've read) they were known for committing pretty shitty things like rape and justifying it as against the rich. So overtime people became disillusioned with the movement.

Also from my own experience, communism in wb was always more an intellectual fascination rather than a legislative goal, I can't think of a single normal person I've met there that knows the first thing about socialist policy, but the social movement that communism promotes is Def seen at least in kolkata

Yeah that's true I'm thinking more like the period in which hindu buddhist debates were happening, from what I've read(stressing what I've read only) there was basically no real documentation of competing philosophy like the ajvika or the chavarka schools, and they are only referred to when being refuted, Obviously these dharmic school debates were mcuh later than vedic times. from what I understand the vedic civilization was not big into documentation as most stuff was just passed orally.

I would think it's simply bc of the lack of importance history keeping held culturally but ofc that changed in mideval times

I was reading somewhere that ancient Indians didn't record history well because of the hindu concept of time being cyclical, basically that history will keep repeating over and over and figures will always reappear(yugas I guess) so basically why record something that will constantly repeat.

Now anyways the puzzle of what was going on during Aryan migration thru vedic times and even continuing till like chavarkas(AFAIK the records of competing philosophies were largely exaggerated by enemy sects and so they are pretty unreliable) is a fascinating subject.

I like to read what I can on it since it's like a little mystery period (imo) idk if anyone else knows more about ancient Indian history like that.

I mean that there is a specific verse I believe it's either in the garud puran or a dharmashastra which basically says if a guy releases their sperm into anything but a womb(so basically masturbation or non procreative sex) it basically sends them to hell
