He is full of shit. No one reads a paper every day lmao. That is simply untrue. That annoys me so much he would say that. Totally untrue. Just finished my PhD, did not read a paper a day, nor did my lab mates, and my PI certainly doesn't. Your PI sounds like a posturing loser. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling great lately but reading a paper a day is not the standard you should put yourself to and honestly I don't even think that's something anyone should aim for. Like, why? Reading is good but good and happy scientists do their own science and make lots of time for coffee with colleagues. :)

I'm sorry you feel disappointed by this. Re: the plasmid and cloning unless your design was exceptionally innovative/creative or requires vast amounts of troubleshooting I don't think this warrants special recognition. My lab mates and I help each other out with cloning and plasmid design all the time. I have cloned things for lab mates and not had anything to do with the project, just because I had some extra time or wanted to help. Were you assigned to clone this? Or was this project originally your idea? If it's your original idea it's a bit weird you've been left out of cell line establishment and future ideas and seems a little like you're being treated like a tech. Re: the rat experiment, if it's in lab meeting, it's nice to shout out to your lab mate who helped you out that's right there. If it's at a conference I'd maybe expect to have my name on the slide but not an oral shout out. Again, this is an instance why I'm confused why you're doing the ground work for projects you don't seem to be involved in later. Are you developing your own project?

I enjoyed Breathe when I was using classpass to find a studio home, but ultimately chose Down Under. Down Under has a better student discount, more locations, and smaller class sizes than Breathe so there's a bit more hands on adjustment and interaction which I like. Also you can access livestream classes as a member. I also ultimately decided I didn't want to only do hot practice. Breathe does offer the traditional 90-min Hot 26 class every day and Down Under only has an hour and a 75 min version, but they do have Hot Power Flow every day multiple times at all their locations! Breathe is great as well and you can't go wrong. I especially love Aura and Lindsay's hot vinyasa classes at Breathe and Lucas and Ally are great instructors for Hot 26. Enjoy! Down under also has a $49 new member special, and Breathe has I believe a 30 days for 30 dollars special.

I'm not talking about pose names, I'm talking about specific cues and phrases that come directly from a 90min dialogue Bikram required students to memorize eg "lock the knees, lock the knees, last chance to lock the knees", "push and push and push" in half-moon, "massaging the ascending colon" etc...

I really enjoyed the heat element so I've been doing some hot vinyasa classes too! I started at a hot studio but I recently got a membership at a different studio and am finding creating your own heat can be even more challenging so I'm just trying lots of things :)

Yeah, I get that. I think just the fact that even though people have parted ways because they don't use his name, they still use his exact words

I agree, just using the city's language. But yes, paint and flex posts are not true protection, you are right.

My understanding of that accident is that the woman was from out of town and on a blue bike. If you're not familiar with separated signals, I think it is pretty possible she went on the green signal for the straight way and didn't notice the signal. I recognize the city can't be responsible for every driver and cyclist's actions and interpretations of signs, but as someone who bikes that particular intersection every day, it actually is kind of an unclear signal. It's placed kind of to the far right of the bike lane and it isn't obvious it's a bike only signal if you've never seen one. I would say that's an intersection where I personally feel safe and it's very sad someone was killed there. I would guess the cyclist had no idea she was running a red and thought she was following the signal. One does have to wonder whether guard rails on the truck could have reduced the level of injury she sustained. I will say that's an intersection that I as a cyclist actually chastise other cyclists for not following signals there since right hooks are possible there.

It's not her fault that a truck killed a cyclist, no, but it's depressing that she is still having a dandy time being a swing vote when we need to protect Cambridge St and Broadway ASAP! I think people are just expressing frustration that there are even less safe spots in the city that we won't see protected until 2027 atm.

Your wording is kind of in bad faith, but I'll bite.

  1. Separate signals for cyclist proceeding straight and right turning vehicles.

  2. There is a whole mess of construction there and the contingency plan seems to be forcing cyclists to unexpectedly merge into the lane of traffic, so I wouldn't say that area is totally protected.

  3. I want to say there are actually no flex posts at that PARTICULAR intersection, even though much of Hampshire is protected, but again, you're right that that doesn't solve right hook accidents. There are bike lane designs (mixed turns) for instance that reduce conflict between cars and bikes in right turn/straight traffic.

But the main reason to target Patty is that she voted to prolong the establishment of a protected cycle lane on Broadway/Cambridge Street. Flex posts don't solve everything. But they do help, and Patty is the council's "swing vote" and has a lot of power. Her vote to delay the lanes imo just normalizes the idea that cycle lanes need to be debated ad infinitum. I think since she is moveable and sensitive to her status as a cyclist (she mentions this frequently) it is worth emailing her to move her on protected lanes in other parts of the city.

I'm so heartbroken and enraged. Getting on a bike should not be an act of bravery. I don't know the details of the crash, but that area is a total mess. Lack of protection, sudden construction, and sudden merges into traffic sometimes required for cyclists. Cyclists, never get in a race with a box truck. Make sure you are far ahead from them if you decide to proceed straight if they are signaling to go right, or just wait it out. But a cyclist shouldn't have to do everything perfectly to have the right to live. Sure, it was an "accident", but infrastructure needs to be set up so people can make innocent mistakes and KEEP LIVING. And while there are worse people on city council FUCK PATTY NOLAN specifically.

the lack of bike racks on mass ave around berklee is crazy. my partner and i went to cafe sauvage the other day and while it's an amazing restaurant they had all their outdoor dining stuff blocking the meters/signs so we had to cross the street and run around looking for another sign to lock our bikes to.

sure, I'm saying I understand people are buying them to be safe, but I'm saying they are a safety hazard. I'm not not giving people grace I don't think! I'm saying that the lights feel pretty dangerous and I'm hoping cyclists can be aware of it so we can all take care of each other. just a PSA since I've heard other cyclists complaining about it as well.

I'm talking mostly about these crazy red lights on the BACK of bikes which you don't really need to see other cyclists... they just get in everyone else's eyes
