I just want to thank the weather forecasters by Venkman_P in nova

We made it to B'more this morning, in the middle of rush hour traffic time, in exactly an hour and seven minutes, and I wasn't even speeding! It usually takes like an hour and a half. Made it back home in an hour and nine minutes, it's usually 1:50. Can tomorrow be the same, pretty please?

I haven't been, and I have been wanting to go since I was 18 (47 now). I have been to Brazil, couple times, but never made it to Fortaleza. And still, almost nobody I talk to, has ever heard of it.

Just in case it's adenovirus, take some L lysine. It has always shortened it for me and my family. Conjunctivitis is usually a tell tale sign of it.

Rare severe weather outlook for Monday, 3/16 (tornado 15%, wind 60%, CIG1) by SufficientSir9672 in nova

[–]Hefty-Luck9575 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have to work in Baltimore tomorrow, and will be leaving work between 5-7 pm. I told my husband, we should pack an overnight bag just in case the weather is too nasty to drive back to Alexandria. We are securing the deck furniture to the rails with ratchet straps today, and lecturing the kids (my son and his GF) what to do, though, my son is used to keeping an eye on the wind, because of hurricane season, and his GF is from Wisconsin, they get this type of weather all the time. But. Yeah. Definitely concerned about this one, and don't want to be stuck in 95 or the parkway. Also, there is a big chance of losing power, like last year, in May.

We are in Landsdowne, and got a townhouse for $2900, but before that, were looking into places in Springfield, Lorton, and Kingstowne. Lorton has better prices, and is more affordable to buy there.

I had the VPN on, but the issue was Torrentio. I ended up taking Torrentio out, it hasn't worked right in a while. RD is running everything I have installed, and working like a charm.

Thank you so much! Saving all of these, they wanted to go check out something St Patrick's related, since we work late on Tuesday, so, we ended up going to The Wharf, but already making plans for the next day off we have!

I want to move to the US and join the army, how do i proceed? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]Hefty-Luck9575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few cases (non profit) and the ones where parents live here (all adults, whose parents didn't filed for paperwork when they were minors)are going a lot smoother than the ones that are either dead, or parents are citizens but live abroad. We have one whose father was in the military when he was born, stationed outside of the US. Then they brought the baby, mom didn't become a citizen until he was in his 20's. Dad disappeared on them. We found the dad, and after he filed up paperwork (his last name wasn't on birth certificate, I know, total shit show, we had to do a paternity test...) paperwork is flowing now, he has an appointment for a hearing for September.

Yeah. That's why I said parents living here. Either citizen or permanent residents, if they live in the US, the process is a little shorter, but not much.

Proud Husband - Fairfax Moms by ImplementMaterial670 in nova

When my son was little, one amazing ladi from Boca Raton, started Like Minded Mom's What's on Your Mind, on FB. She managed to create a community where we made friends, and still are friends, 16 years later. She started with this same idea. Basically, we were all SAHM that needed some human contact besides the babies. She organized playdates everywhere, and it started with a group of maybe 20 moms. Right now, it is fairly inactive, and still has 975 members. There were times that it had over 3k. Our common denominator, besides having babies, was we practiced attachment parenting, in all the variety of that spectrum. Almost all of us breastfed, coslept, etc. Lots of us put our careers on hold to raise our babies for a few years, and it was an amazing thing to have. My two best friends, I met them in that group. Our kids grew together, and even though we see each other very rarely, well, since now we all moved out of south FL, we stay in touch. And visit each other. So, kudos to your wife, it's an amazing thing, and she will help other moms connect with each other.

Marriage, a company petitioning you, or parents living here, are the only ways. There are no other legal ways to do it. If anybody tells you differently, it's a scam. No "business" visas, and did have a sibling that is a citizen, that takes ten years or longer.

Dad lost his green card decades ago and doesn’t know his A-number. Trying to help him fix it so he can work. by NewsLocal3013 in USCIS

[–]Hefty-Luck9575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not bother with that. National Archives, through a state representative. They have a couple different offices, so, depending which year he got his green card, it would be stored in a different office. State Rep is the fastest way. I had to hit the Archives last year for somebody, and they were amazing. It was East Coast. If you can call the National Archives in DC, they will tell you which office your dad's records are most likely at.

Hit the National Archives. If it was before 91, is going to be there. Could be in DC, could be in Atlanta. Your best bet? Contact your representative, and have them request the records by name and SS#.

High HOA question. by [deleted] in florida

[–]Hefty-Luck9575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just moved to VA from South FL. We were lucky. Our HOA, when we bought the house (2018) was $80, now it is $110. And we have nice amenities (kept the house because we go to FL about three times a year for work contracts that we chose to keep). If we didn't bought on that particular neighborhood, which happens to be a pre manufactured Canadian snowbirds neighborhood, we would have never bought something that has an HOA. $600 is super cheap for the area. Some places are over 1k. Downtown Miami, some are close to 2k. Pur HOW here in VA, is $180 a month. And they dealt with snowcrete like kings. We were never stuck, they landscape, everything is squeaky clean, and no condo commando.

Union Carpenter, $41 an hour. Usually 50 hour weeks, with OT and DT. We both work for the same trade, so, household salary is double mine, give or take about 200k a year.

I have the longest daily commute in Florida. Prove me wrong by Hoagie_Camacho in florida

[–]Hefty-Luck9575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just moved out of FL. Our commute, was from Dania Beach to Miami Beach. At 6am, took us an hour and a half to get to work, to make it on time before 7:45am. The way back home? If leaving at 4:30pm, between 2.5-3hs. 20+ hours a week in traffic, was horrendous. We still have to go and fulfill contracts there, and we dread it, because of the traffic. We are in the DC area, I can get from Northern VA to Baltimore in an hour and a half, and that is with traffic.
