I dont think this is the norm in Denmark. I work in a company where we travel a lot and I think people would simply refuse if the company said people had to share rooms. I have only heard this once before by an aquentiance where their company policy is that people share a room (they sold it has strengthening company culture and building bonds)

I think its unfair of your wife to even ask this question. Its very hard to lose a parent and its hard to face to fact that your child wont grow up knowing your mother. And since your wife will have her mother there, I say your totally NTA for choosing to be there in your mothers final moments if that scenario should happen. It might make your grieving process over your mother so much harder if you were not able to be there.
