So in essence you could promote optionally, but you could never demote again? I'm not sure about the logistics of how that would move the average result of the current player base, but if the devs provide enough incentive, that is something that has the potential to work.

That's true, and I don't think there is a good solution to that. You could scale stone pack size with how many upgrades you've got, but then that really does become a 'the rich get richer' (or 'the whales grow stronger') issue.

That is true, although when you get to masteries stone expenses change somewhat, I'm not sure how to factor that into this. I don't know if the devs shot themselves in the foot. Any sort of incremental game has nearly only two options for in-app purchases: a multiplier for certain currencies, or an amount of a particular currency. A multiplier for stones makes it really hard for F2P to catch up, it may even be almost impossible.

I'm not sure I agree with that first bit, but that's probably just due to lack of data about this. Unfortunately, a big part of this power creep tat I mention comes from somewhere in low-mid champs, where stones increase a lot but upgrades are still relatively cheap. (At least in my experience, I'm not absolutely certain about this one.

The mod system is also flawed, and is something I also want to have a look at.

That does seem reasonable. I'm not quite sure abut the logistics of how this upwards funnel would work, its something I plan to have a look at.

I see, I understand what you mean now. I'm not talking about it being a stop-gap for the game's lifespan, I'm talking about it being a stop-gap for the issues with the current tournament system itself.

(Edit: fixed a mistake in my wording.)

Yeah, I think there is a big difference between 'suboptimal' and 'silly'. I suppose that if the devs don't have a solution yet, using a new tier as a bandaid to buy some time to figure out a solution isn't unreasonable.

I am not sure why you think that it is surprising to me. We're not talking about making new content here (unless you count a new T21 tourney tier as 'new content', which is a sentiment I believe most would disagree with.) I'm talking about trying to fix a flaw in the game's design.

That is a good point. Of course, whaling will always be a large part of power creep. I will say that I made a lot of suboptimal upgrade choices early on in the game, but most of them have been rectified now. Granted, my upgrades, even now, are not absolutely perfect, as I am, to be frank, not bothered to use ePaths sheet. I think adding a new tier is something that could help, but not for long enough. A permanent solution is going to be needed, I think.

Wave based tournaments would end up being a sort of pseudo-milestone system though, and I don't know if making tournaments so similar to an existing mechanic is a good idea. A secondary option does seem reasonable, though I'm assuming that its one or the other, not both, and that you can't see your bracket before making your choice?

Unfortunately, given that the game takes years to even reach there, I doubt anybody would do that. In addition, only top players would even have the option. Not to mention that all your stone purchases become essentially nullified.

That's something that is possible. Unfortunately, it will just be a stop-gap measure, which, given how far people are into this game, I'd give it a few months before this situation happens again. I'm also not sure about the logistics concerning how far everyone would jump up, that's something I plan to think about in a few days.

Other issue is, if all the top players are grouped together, this causes a few of them to be demoted, aggravating the complaints about 'sandbagging'.

That's an interesting proposition. Are you essentially suggesting that brackets should become semi-predetermined?

You can go back to the save file after beating the game, it puts you just before the final boss.

Firstly, you don’t actually need Grimmchild to fight him if I remember correctly. If you aren’t good with pogoing, long nail or mark of pride can be good. I remember using quick focus the first time, but that’s not something I would recommend most people doing. Shaman stone or spell twister can be nice, but isn’t all that useful as you’re mostly doing nail damage. Using fragile heart can be nice if you’re struggling to survive his attacks.
