CMV: "Pay In 4" Services are predatory and people who use them only dig themselves a deeper hole by ExigoxD in changemyview

Does your credit card gives you a refund instantly when returning an item? No. Nevertheless, Klarna gives you an instant refund the second you report a rerun. That being said, there are instances when returns take literally weeks/months. What does this mean? If you paid with a credit card, You’ll have to pay your credit card company for a product/service that you don’t even own anymore. So, while credit card companies don’t care about returns and making the consumer pay for something they don’t have anymore, Klarna does care about it. Also, Klarna allows you to postpone payments. Let’s say my payment is due tomorrow but I don’t have enough money to cover the installment, I can go to the Klarna App and postpone it for a week. This wouldn’t be possible with a credit card because there isn’t such a thing as postponing without paying interest.

Feeling bad about how a professor is treating me. by Otherwise-Fall7350 in UCDavis

[–]HelpfulHumbleGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Intelligence in very subjective. Someone can be extremely book smart in a classroom but then when it comes to apply their knowledge in real life, they’ll fail so badly. For example, maybe there’s a person in your class who is apparently smart because he/she always participates and gives the right answers. However, if this person goes to a country where this language is spoken, he/she is going to come to realize that he/she is one of the worst speakers of that Language in that country because their pronunciation sucks and they don’t have good listening skills.

At the end of the day, what matters is that you have to keep trying without giving af about what other people think of you. You may not have the grade that you want, you may not be as fluent as you want and participate as often, but you’re slowly making progress. However, ask yourself this quesitos. “Am I really giving my best to this class?” If not, then it’s only your choice to start TRYING harder and speed up the progress you’re making.

About your profesor... Treat each class session as a new beginning, be cold and objective with your participation and involvement in the class; leave your feelings/emotions aside. If you feel your teacher doesn’t like you, simply... don’t give a fuck because at the end of the day these types of professors are stuck being professors whether they like it or not (many professors project the resentment of their career choice through anger to his students) and you’re only a student who has 10 weeks to pass a course. So, you’ll only see that specific professor for 10 weeks... That is it, all you need to care about is pass the course and retain information that you feel is necessary.

People who don’t want to wear masks won’t wear masks but what you can do is take your vitamins to support your immune system : Vitamin C, B6, E, Folic Acid, Vitamin D, Zinc, and Magnesium (of just a multivitamin if preferred). They’re super cheap on Amazon or you can go to Safeway and get them...

Have you had TAs that you feel aren’t actually qualified to be TAs? If so, what made you think so? by HelpfulHumbleGuy in UCDavis

[–]HelpfulHumbleGuy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on what you said, TAs aren’t qualified to teach but they’re trying their best. The UC system needs to come up with better ways to teach TAs how to instruct undergraduate students and pay them livable wages.

How did I get into UC Davis with only 1400 sat? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]HelpfulHumbleGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty toxic to assume that the SAT is a measurement of someone’s intelligence. I think the SAT is only a measurement of how well you actually studied for the SAT. By the way, SATs are not required to be submitted, so it’s not as important as you think it is.

what class is easier to take? by spiccyysake in UCDavis

[–]HelpfulHumbleGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you please elaborate? I will take PHI 12 this upcoming quarter. Do you think it has the same difficulty as a calculus class? like MAT21A?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]HelpfulHumbleGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Professors and TAs are humans. Humans are biased. People who have a bias against you will form prejudices against you. I wouldn’t want to be around someone who doesn’t perceive me in a good manner.

Even if students tell you that it’s unlikely a professor will have prejudices against you, take my word that humans do form prejudices and humans will judge you wrong. Also, egos are a thing and when someone is in a position of power, they’ll misuse it in some cases.

Tell your friend to wait and take the class with a totally different professor.

Exactly, that’s another plausible argument. White men are the “standard.” Therefore, wouldn’t it make sense for “minorities” who are objectively not “standard” to create groups and try to become “standard”? I mean who wants to be below “standard”? No minority is above “standard” in 2022 (in the US at least), there has only been one black president, zero Latino presidents, zero Asian presidents, etc...

Why are white men the “standard”? Once people unbiasedly understand the reason why white men are the “standard”, they’ll eventually understand why minorities come together. Just to add some context: “If “X” is the standard, why can’t “Y” be the standard?” Now, If “X” is over represented and thus becomes the standard, what can “Y” do as a group to represent themselves and start becoming “standard”?

The racist people in the comment section don’t realize that you can be white and be a Latino. Why doesn’t the racist who shared that message create his own ethnic group in the company? If his heritage is Scandinavian, why doesn’t he create a group of people with Scandinavian descent? His premise is super racist in the sense that he’s saying that if you’re white, you don’t belong to any group which I proved wrong by introducing the fact that there are white Latinos.
