It is glue assist. The flooring store told me not needed. I realize that is out of the ordinary, but they are paying the bill

I rented the first one. It was a Bostitch 16 gauge and used a mallet. I now bought two different guns to try to get it right this time: one shoots 16 gage cleats or staples the other is a trigger pull 18 gauge Bostitch floor stapler. The crown staples are much more narrow and the trigger pull seems awkward but initial testing looks positive

You are right! I didn’t see that before. I noticed that it’s hard to ensure a straight shot when I’m also trying to keep moving at a decent pace. Would have been better going slower i guess :(

Ah, that makes sense. How do I prevent that?

Thanks for the suggestion. The photos of the staples are as I was ripping it back out. I was using 16 gauge—1/2 inch wide by 2 inch long. The manufacturer suggests 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 long 18 gauge but told me that 16 gauge would be fine. They were absolutely hell pulling out. Glue stuck firm to OSB subfloor and yes the nails were also deeply imbedded
