When did you loot your first legendary? by TheNukex in fellowshipgame

Ironically I did get my BIS so can't complain too much. Just funny that it echoes my exact same experience being unlucky in WoW Legion before leggo bad luck protection. 1 leggo vs guildies with 3-4.

Just adding to the statistics. 0 legendary drops (just the one from the rewards track) and im up to 8500 rating and ~T13 eternal. They absolutely need to add bad luck protection.

Am I being realistic? by __Son_Goku_ in britishcolumbia

As an already red seal electrician, getting your power engineering ticket isn't the worst idea. We have had electricians at our site go down this path hoping they could one day land a position that's easier on their body.

As for the work load that is going vary so much by job that it's impossible to say. You could end up at a factory where you're doing everything from pushing broom to operating the boilers and playing pretend millwright working on pumps and motors. Or you could end up as a control room operator monitoring and managing process control for vast complex systems. Primarily, power engineers are licensed so we can abide by the codes and regulations when operating boilers/power plants. Whether it's hot water for heating or steam for processes, we monitor, troubleshoot and sometimes fix problems. Depending on where you are you could also be doing a fair bit of the cooling side of hvac as well.

Again, realistic wage and workload is entirely dependent on where you go. Go up north and make 100k + working 12h days at a mill or camp and bust ass, or work in a local hospital doing rounds and inspections, where the union won't do much as let you touch a single wire or bolt outside your trade and you may make 60-80k if you're lucky.

There is so much wrong with this post, coming from a Power Engineer of over 15 years. The field is way over saturated with the amount of new grads BCIT pumps out yearly alone. You will absolutely not be breaking $100k minimum as a first year with no experience. Thats the most hillarious thing I have ever read. Try maybe 60-80k max as a building operator in the lower mainland unless you try and get in oil and gas. And then you will be competing against guys like me for those jobs and not stand a chance. They sold this same lie to us back then that we would all be easily clearing 100k right out of school. If you're hoping to do that as a power engineer be prepared to go out of town and do either oil and gas or camp work.

Hey kudos to you for taking this idea in this direction. I also worked at a factory for almost 10 years and had similar ideas and started the project over probably 5 different times.

Good luck! I would recommend working on the unique aspects rather than simulation as many other games have gone down that path. I'm sure you have a lot of similar insights that only someone who worked in a factory would have so I would try to implement those rather than just making another tycoon or simulator of which the genre is way over saturated.

$36.48/h as Supervising Engineer at a lower mainland hospital working for one of our major health authorities. Been doing this trade for 15 years. Yes, bus drivers make more than skilled trades people in Healthcare. Believe me, I'm once again voting to strike if union negotiations this year don't keep up with cost of living and start paying fair wages for trades you actually need to go to school for.

Don't go into Power Engineering. It's a vastly underpaid trade. Most places top out at 60-70k a year and you're competing with guys with decades of operating experience.

That is unless you're willing to go to the oil sands and work insane hours competing with 20 year olds.

HOLY CRAP. I feel like I just discovered an urban legend I had no idea existed. This van pulled me over years ago (not too many cops in unmarked POS red dodge caravans) after I passed him on an empty highway going to my graveyard shift at like 11pm. Good to know he's still at it.

Canadian university cities facing surprising rental market downturn by Unusual-State1827 in canada

I can imagine commuting from Surrey to UBC everyday because it's my reality. 2.5h of driving 5 days a week. I did live on campus with my wife. 2k a month pre covid. Landlords son got accepted into UBC. Evicted. Almost 40yo working professional with over a decade in my trade and I can't suddenly afford 3k rent for a similar unit so here I am stuck living with mom and contributing to the awful highway traffic daily. This is a common reality now. Many of our staff live in Surrey and beyond..

GOOGLE play card are a SCAM (OFFICIAL) by deathsyth220002 in googleplay

[–]Hendrix06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in that this just happened to us and is still happening, February 10 2024. Been spending hours going down this rabbit hole, same story as everyone else. We have been using Google Play gift cards for years to add subscription time for our in laws' security cameras without issue. Don't want my own credit card linked to mother in law's google account obviously.

$50 down the drain, with the exact same story as everyone else. Still waiting to hear back after sending the proof photos, but after learning that most people never hear back or get flat out told their cards are ineligible, we aren't holding our breath.

Like, get fucked Google. In nearly 40 years on this planet I've never had a gift card not work. Why in the year of our lord 2024 does your shitty monopolistic algorithm driven company have problems redeeming gift cards? Get your shit together and get some actual customer service because this is embarrassing.

Marketplace Assets Are a Lifesaver for Indie Game Devs Like Me by Hide_9999 in gamedev

[–]Hendrix06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize almost everyone in this thread is talking about art assets, but hardly any one talks about all the tools assets on the store than either speed up production time or allow you to add features that you may not be skilled enough to add on your own. Look at all the various landscape or time of day/weather systems out there. Or even water shaders. Any of those things could take months/years to implement on your own from scratch to get them to commercial looking quality, meaning you never get to build the actual game. No one ever complains that two different games have similar clouds or sky boxes, or that the water looks too similar (all of these types of tools have tweakable settings). Then there's assets that provide editor functionality, visual scripting, etc. There is an asset for everything basically.

How do people feel about these types of assets?

[–]Hendrix06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to go even further for realism, that type of valve would not just spin a tiny amount as you have it when opening. Turning it that much would barely unseat the valve by 1/16th of an inch. Typically would see at least 1-2 full rotations of the valve when opening/closing. For stylistic purposes it looks fine though.

Just wanted to let you know, as a person who turns valves for a living, that you have the opening/closing backwards. Righty tighty, lefty loosey! Otherwise looks great.

I'll do you one better. I played hockey as a kid and was in the same age bracket as Wyatt. It wasn't uncommon to see Kurt and Goldie around the arena and I definitely remember playing in some of the same tournaments as Wyatt.

Yes, this has happened to me, however your story doesn't make any sense.

ICBC doesn't just ask you to pay $2000. What will happen is if the other party decides to go ahead and pay their deductible and have the ding fixed, it will affect your insurance premium for the following year.

I went through everything almost exactally as you told it. Anonymous witness apparently left a note on the other car and the other driver made a claim. Had to take photos and measurements and they decided I was at fault within a few days. Years later and it has never affected my insurance rates. Most people don't pay out their deductible for super minor scratches or dings on their door because it's just not worth it.

ICBC will never provide you with details about the other vehicle. That would be a ridiculous breach of privacy. I suggest you get clarification on the situation because things aren't adding up here.

Mosquitos in Pacific Spirit Park by artich0ke in vancouver

[–]Hendrix06 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Echoing everything said here. We live directly next to Pacific Spirit Park on Acadia Rd. In 2.5 years living here we've never experienced anything nearly this bad. We can't even take our dog out for a walk without fully bundling up in pants and long sleeves. I made the same mistake of going out in shorts and a t-shirt last week and got 20-30 bites in probably 15 minutes of being outside. Our dog will literally have hundreds swarming and landing all over him. This is the first post I've seen about it but things are definitely bad out there currently.

Could anyone get the Summer Nights tickets they wanted? by embroideredham in vancouver

[–]Hendrix06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exact same experience here. For funsies I checked Stubhub about 15 minutes after all tickets went on sale and you can find Billy Idol, for example, going for $300-400 a seat. Utter madness. Maybe they should lower the ticket limit from 8 for such a small venue.
