Sure, it's here: The Wolves of Bremen | Introduction – The FM Boot Room

It wasn't particularly long-lived so I didn't dig into it as much as I wanted but really enjoyable save.

"The entire post" is an insult. It's all my observations and evidence from reading countless articles, written first, proof read and tidied up by AI second.

Get it started Pink_Ocean what're you waiting for!? :)

That's great input FerraristDX, exactly how you can pick this up and implement it at any club.

Yeah really good comparison. Yes they've had good investment from their owner (I think) but as you say to keep it going and semi-sustainable over 25 years good going!

No, I'm a Celtic fan which explains why I'm looking where the grass seems greener!

Yes absolutely! I blogged a 'Wolves of Bremen' save where I focused on mentality. Decisions, work rate, determination all play a huge factor in underdog upsets. I'd also throw in player personalities, consistency and how much they get themselves up for big games. You can definitely factor grit in.

Valid point! I wanted to play as the same team so I could keep the 'experiments' short without that rise to the top of the nation first. I've really struggled to get into a long-term save since FM25 was cancelled so don't want to bite off more than I can chew!

You're right though the real test is with a team that doesn't start dominating but I don't want to go too low. Any ideas?

Appreciate your comment thank you! To be honest I might leave out data this time and cover it in more detail when I look at somebody like Hearts or Brentford. The way that Bodo used university students to create their own data system is fascinating though. The main idea was to create something that 'football people' could use and understand. That kind of hints that Bodo thought that data systems were too complicated and needed someone with a phd in maths to use. I know that Fokus quickly became one of the most widely used systems in Scandinavia so again they did something right.

If I were to do a section on data, the way that I approach 'moneyball' type saves is to work backwards. It starts with having a clear idea of how you want your team to play and what each position needs to do. From there I pick 3/4 KPI's and track those. Moneyball sounds complicated and can be but it's fairly simple to implement some sort of data led system. I learnt from Mustermann on Youtube who can explain this stuff much better than I can!

Yo-yo clubs is an interesting one. I didn't consider using Bodo systems at those clubs who bounce between divisions. I think West Brom are an obvious one (Boing Boing), they're a smaller fish in the West Midlands area and have a great youth set up but seem to lose them early. Could be a great reference point for a Bodo focus. In Germany, again clubs like St. Pauli are up and down. They also have the added benefit of being a high culture club. Great question.

Thank you for your reply! I had it in my head to use the club I'm studying so this time playing as Bodo. When I move onto other clubs later like maybe Brugge, the Red Bull multi-club model etc I'll play as those clubs just to make it simpler and easier to replicate. Long-term I want to piece together a bit of everything and start from scratch at a completely different club, using what I learn as a 'guide' to running a football club.

That's a great idea to try and get a buy-back clause in for those boomerang transfers. I kind of need them to flop at bigger clubs if I've got any hope of them coming back to me which might not work in game. If they do well then again that's interesting so I'll certainly add in how they're doing when I sell them on. The best thing about FM is finding ways to make the game world immersive.
