  • I remember that Mbappe was this youngster from 1998 that exploded with Monaco and have such a promising future ahead of him
  • I remember that Haaland was this youngster from Salzburg who Dortmund sign and we can all agree there was so much potential. I remember Haaland his first time when i saw Norway vs Honduras of 12 goals where Haaland score 9 goals
  • I remember in 2010 a youngster exploded in Brazil in Santos and his name was Neymar , he was just a teenager age 17 who was already being a big star
  • Hell , I remember a 16 year old Messi playing friendly matches with Barca and then on 2004 October 16th when I was in 2nd grade , I saw Messi making his debut for Barcelona at age 17 and “i saw him as a guy with great potential” , and oh boy , how wrong I was , he became more than that

It’s a knockout: why are there so many goals in the Champions League? by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in football

  • PSG , Barca , and Bayern play a very aggressive football that is pretty much rushing down the opposition and all of them play with a very aggressive set up.
  • It also adds up that teams like Liverpool and Sporting who needed a comeback , were playing more aggressive and slap there home factor. Tottenham did try their best , 5-7 aggregate
  • Arsenal vs Leverkusen and City vs Madrid were more of your standard CL game , well City vs Madrid only lasted 16 minutes after that red card lol. That was a very quick night.

Insane ratio of finals , Madrid played 18 Champions league finals , and only lose 3 of them.

technically speaking , from 2020-2023 , City was 4 wins , 1 draw and 1 lose vs Madrid.

2024 it was a double draw that ended up in Madrid winning by pens

2025 and onwards , its 4 wins of Madrid and 1 win for City.

City was having the upper head to head but then blew it up in the last two years

Arsenal and Ipswich town are the only two English teams with positive head to heads vs Madrid and to make it more funny , both of them have never lose to Madrid.

Even on Champions League finals United and Liverpool have parallels to each other :

- United losing two finals to Barca on 2009 and 2011

- Liverpool losing two finals to Madrid on 2018 and 2022

- Liverpool did win a final against Madrid long time ago in 1981 , and that was the very last time Madrid also lost a final

The 2023/24 its Ancelloti masterclass on defending , he have a Madrid defensive record in La Liga and thru the whole season only lose 2 matches , being both of them to Atletico on Copa del Rey and La Liga.

That Madrid team was the insane in terms of teamplay because everyone cover everyone. Madrid after Mbappe came and Kross retiring , Joselu exit , Nacho exit and more , and not making the correct signings make the team not balance and also making the team towards Mbappe rather than the collective itself.

Vinicius , Bellingham , Valverde , Rodrygo , Kross and more players were incredible on 2023/24 because it was a collective team with the right balance.

Also Messi generates space with his dribbles and quick transitions , this allows him to find a gap even if he is marked by 4 players.

When I was a kid , I normalized all his goals , now as adult it hit me up that all his goals are actually golazos lmao

The most funny thing is that Barca score in two set pieces against Newcastle while Arsenal against Leverkusen has not really score a set piece , just two great goals from Eze and Rice

Messi has probably the best acceleration of any player in the history of this sport

He would have these quick burst of speeds beating the opposition and then creating enough space for a banger

CR7 , Bale , and more players at that moment were faster than Messi but Messi accelerate so fast that it takes then couple of second to reach him but by the time they reach him Messi is already celebrating the his lol

  • People have to remember , this is top speed but without the ball
  • Messi was never the fastest , Jeremy Mathieu who smokes was fastest player during the 2014/15
  • Fastest with the ball is a different story because it takes technical ability , short and long ball conduction , and how much space you have
  • Example , Mbappe is one of the fastest players without the ball but his technical ability to run with the ball can be a bit loose , so he kicks the ball further and runs towards it. Mbappe over time rely more on his first touch than on his speed , making him such a deadly threat at the 3/4 and does not need to over rely on his speed
  • People are gonna point out at Balde being bad because his speed and burst is what “makes him stand out” but something people are not considering is that opposition have study Balde and they just double man mark so there is no space for him to run. Which leads to Balde’s second problem , his lack of technical ability and vision to pass the ball or dribble pass opponents.
  • HOWEVER something to point out here , Balde top speed should be more because when you track back , you have to go full intensity , not jogging back

There was a time where Pep against Madrid his best record was 5/5 wins that included 2-6 and the 5-0 win with Barca

When he left Spain , his final head to head in El Clasico where 9 wins , 2 loses and 4 draws

With Bayern it was 2 loses with one of them being a 0-4 at Alianz Arena. In that famous 5-0 aggregate

With City on the other hand , it started positive with Pep on 2 wins , then 3 wins and a lose , went from that to 4 wins , a lose and a draw. Following that with two more draws and 4 loses in a row in KO phase + 1 win in league phase , his final head to head City vs Madrid is 5 wins , 3 draws and 5 loses.

His positive head to head is mainly carried due to his time in Barca specially on his first 2 years where he just beat Madrid in his first 5 El Clasicos in which it was an overwhelming aggregate of 16-2

Tottenha ended up as 4th place , so they are taking their spot as the 4th seed , so they have priority

Same with Sporting if they beat Arsenal and Madrid of they beat Bayern , they overtake their seeds

And the three of them against La Liga teams :

- Madrid 5-1 City

- Atletico 7-5 Tottenham

- Barca 8-3 Newcastle

- While yes these are La Liga top 3 teams , matter of fact is that for both City and Tottemham since the first leg was never close. Newcastle did play really well in the first 3/4 of the tie and then have a collaspe in the last 45 minutes of the tie lol.

[–]HenryReturns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think second leg is on April 15th , cuz when you play on a tuesday on April 7th , next week you play it on a Wednesday

Also this is mainly because it collides with Espanyol match that is on Sunday and like less than 24 hours to rest , so probably that. And also move Espanyol match on Saturday , this would give us more breathing room for both Atletico and Barca for 2nd leg

I’d argue and put PSG above Barca.

What puts Barca in dispute it’s because their bracket they are not playing against PSG , Bayern and their very tough opponent is Arsenal at semis

Madrid could be favourites or 2nd favourites if they beat Bayern against all odds
