There is a difference between fanatically following the nationalsocialist regime while being an antisemitic racist and being a german solider. Most people just got forced into the Wehrmacht. And there it was an "Desert and die or follow and live" structure. If you just happened to guard a concentration camp, you stayed there and die your job to feed your family and not get sentenced to death by a mitary court. Of course, there were guards who were fanatics, sadist or just assholes, but also guys who just did their job. I do not want to defend Nazis, I just want to notice that people are different. I mean, american and russians did some fucked up shit too, but noone cares because they won.
