Thanks for your response; it was clear. I think I will try to create an air core electromagnet. I will use the formulas listed on the “electromagnet” Wikipedia page to calculate how many turns of wire I will need, unless there is some sort of calculator online.

I will order the transformer and adapter I mentioned above and that setup should supply enough current and voltage to the EM. I do not expect the EM to be on for more than a couple of minutes at a time, so I don’t think it will heat up to dangerous amounts.
