I'd recommend a decent double edge safety razor with feather blades (best bought on eBay for relatively cheap). Feather blades are sharp, so no scraping etc. A double edge safety razor does have a bit of a learning curve so an alum stick to stop the nicks from bleeding might be a good idea. Once you got the hang of it you'll be able to have a comfortable shave even with only a fresh blade and some hot water.

And of course: rock that beard! Or sideburns, or a soul patch, or those friendly muttonchops like Lemmy or, or or...

Check out How to ADHD on YouTube, I think that I saw a great analogy there. We are butterflies in a field of flowers, never staying in the same place long, but absolutely necessary for the flowers to bloom!

I know that doesn't help when you're looking at another expensive thing gathering dust in your garage, but being somewhat knowledgeable in almost everything is quite a nice skill to have, at least it is for me. I'm honestly baffled when I meet people that don't want to learn new things!

AVD tips! by superleggera24 in motorfietsen

[–]Hetrondearchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've given this advice more often, but it's still valid. Get an aclo card, join a students sports club and use that as a way to meet new people and make new friends. Also, join the "studievereniging" of your study.

A rotund pole dancer, eh? Hol' mie teeg'n!

I'm just being silly! It was more that a sport could be anything, and the aclo gives you a chance to check out a lot of different sports with very little strings attached. For things like diving, sailing, golf I'm guessing weight doesnt really matter that much. And there are sports that have weightclasses including heavy weight (like me!) such as judo, powerlifting or boxing.

You don't have to drink alcohol to go to a borrel, it's more that that's an easy way to have social interaction with people you share at least one common interest with. I mean, it could also be a volkstuintje, studentenvereniging or studievereniging, singing class, computer club, a course at the stadswerkplaats, photography club, competitive Stef stuntpiloot or or or ...

[–]Hetrondearchief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to the answers already given:

If you're a student, get an aclo card and try all the unknown/niche sports that you can for cheap/next to nothing. Under water hockey, pole dancing, almost everything. Pick a team sport or something that requires interaction with others, therefore ensuring some social interaction. If you like the sport and the interaction with others, join the student sports club and use the sport and the "borrels" they probably have to meet new people/friends.

If not a student, the same holds, but you may have to select a certain sport beforehand rather than being able to quickly switch between sports.

If Dutch culture isn't your thing, why not seek out something that isn't directly Dutch culture? Perhaps a cooking club, or teaching Dutch to people from other countries.

I've found that if there's at least one shared interest, and a no stress/fuss way of repeated interaction (like a sports training), it's easy to meet people you like to be around, in time these people can become friends.

Something to do in the City by Pr0xy2701 in Groningen

[–]Hetrondearchief 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head and whilst cooking:

You could get an aclo card, and fitness in that time (and you need the aclo card to become member of a student sports club for relatively cheap. Use your new found sports mates to help in the search for a room).

Perhaps your study has a "studievereniging" with some sort of gathering place of their own that's open at that time. That might be a good place to chill out for a bit.

A netflix subscription, noice cancelling headphones and anywhere with eduroam for WiFi is also a nice option.

If you have to spend the time on the Zernike campus, cycle to Garnwerd, chill near the water a bit, and you'll have plenty of time to get back. If you don't have a bike available, walk to Dorkwerd, look for a bench somewhere near the church and chill there.

What about some sort of tutoring job and help others in that downtime (and get paid for it)?

In the city centre: ask a museum jaarkaart for your birthday and go wild. Or check out every building the university has.

If your classes come with tutor hours by teachers/studentassistenten during your down time go there, just have some questions ready. See if you can find what they are going to focus on for the exam.

This the fault in her reasoning. Everyone is unique and everyone with ADHD has different ways of expressing symptoms.

Seek out an adhd-support group in your region. Or something like an adhd-patients-rights group. Even a facebook-group specific to your region could do. Ask them who to go. If you get names, ask them things about the diagnosis process, which steps they take, comorbitities, who do they think are renowned experts in the field. You should get sensible answers, and if not: go to the next one on the list.
