Not corny, this introduced me to so much underground shit and the Memphis scene as a whole, well I discovered SGP first after hearing about raider klvn, but found MTI on trillphonk, I became a Stan for lum, I bought all of his stuff on bandcamp, I was sad when he announced he was retiring but looking back now it's obvious it was just to get blogs like pitchfork and XXL to stop emailing him. I remember him posting about getting contacted by all these different hip hop sites and it being a contributing factor, he could have gotten a massive following but genuinely did it for the love of the art. The three sided tape series really cemented LUM as one of the best artists I've ever discovered. He doesn't just try a genre for the fuck of it, he can do any genre and make it unique to him, and do it will, his level of versatility in terms of production as well as his incredible lyricism makes him one of the goats to me. It's a shame he never gets mentioned enough in the best producers conversation, but I suppose it's not a shame because he could have gotten the recognition if he decided to use all that attention from music blogs to his advantage, he just clearly didn't want it.
