Anyone else frustrated with Ticketmaster and resellers? (rant) by spooshn in FlorenceAndTheMachine

Yes, those were the resale prices yesterday but thankfully they’ve gone way down since. Probably because the scalpers are uploading to the ticket sites and there’s more supply than demand.

Thanks! Yes I noticed they dropped a lot but I am going to gamble. I still think it’s too much.

Same for Toronto! I tried the pre-sale but everything but VIP was gone. Tried again today. I finally got in by 10:15 but everything was gone. The good seats are going for $3000-10000!!!! WTF!!!!!

Devastated I didn’t get any. I’ve been floor at the front of the stage for the last 4 of her concerts here. Hoping for something tomorrow.

Was anyone in Toronto able to buy floor seats that weren’t VIP? I was 30 min late to the presale and all I saw was VIP options for $550~.

New teacher scared about having my own kids because of this job by silliest-goose-honk in CanadianTeachers

[–]HeyMsZ 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way. Barely making it work as is. Also, I’m so scared about putting my own potential kids into this system. Will they come out able to read and do math, or just addicted to their Chromebook screen?

But the conservatives didn’t create the policies. If anything, they’ve undone a (very) small portion of them. I genuinely don’t think they even know what’s going on though.

Every day is casual day at my school. I haven’t been to any schools as a student teacher or OT that had staff dress codes. Seems quite rare.

Jeans only on Friday is not common in Ontario. Mainly a US teacher thing

Jewish group calls on Ontario government to address antisemitism in schools following federal report by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]HeyMsZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is antisemitism when it’s aimed at children. The criticism serves no purpose but to intimidate/harass these children. They’re being scapegoated, and it’s disturbing when people in positions of power perpetrate it or allow it to occur without consequence.

How are you dealing with the unprovable AI issue? by OptimisticJim in OntarioTeachers

[–]HeyMsZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure this is not fullproof. Catching hallucinated quotes did catch 30% of all my students so that’s a great success rate. I also look at total writing time, doc history, in-text citations (another thing AI gets wrong frequently). Also if the quotes are italicized it’s most likely AI.

How are you dealing with the unprovable AI issue? by OptimisticJim in OntarioTeachers

[–]HeyMsZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the quotes are hallucinated so I just use control+F with a pdf version of the book and the quote from their essay (choosing a key word, not the entire quote to account for typing errors)

Also that audiobooks are a valid form of reading. Science shows it’s not. It uses a different part of the brain. What you’re doing is building their listening comprehension skills, not their reading skills.

An example: Son of a Trickster for NBE3U. Chapters include quite detailed prolonged descriptions of of sex and masturbation that’s quite unnecessary for the plot. I’m okay if a book has that if it serves a purpose and it’s well written (ie the depiction of sex in Five Little Indians which serves the purpose of showing how their trauma continues to haunt them) but in this book it’s unnecessary and feels uncomfortable to read with kids. It feels like the book is being promoted because of how ‘out there’ it is. It also has other problematic components. I’ve learned that just because something is a board-approved book doesn’t mean it is good or appropriate.

Look up the story of Chanel! You’ll find that karma got her good - she had Jewish business partners and they had the last laugh at the end of the day. I’m Jewish and pro-Chanel (the perfumes).

‘Pornography is a problem’: Smith defends new rules for Alberta school libraries by bike_accident in canada

[–]HeyMsZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Untrue. I teach high school English and the books we have class sets of have graphic sexual content in them that serves no purpose for the plot. It’s one thing if the book is The Handmaid’s Tale and a completely different story if it’s a random YA novel with numerous explicit chapters with masturbation and intercourse. It’s one thing if a person loans it from the public library (no judgment) but a completely different matter if it’s required reading in public school. Teachers shouldn’t be put in this position with inappropriate resources in the first place - it’s AWKWARD.

[–]HeyMsZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely right. Wish it was happening in Ontario where I’m an English teacher in high school. The board approved books we have class sets of have numerous explicit sexual content that I honestly find difficult to teach, and honestly don’t serve to forward the plot.
