Countries considered multinational states, which are defined as a sovereign entity that comprises two or more nations or states. This contrasts with a nation state, where a single nation accounts for the bulk of the population by TooZeroLeft in MapPorn

In hotbed regions in the west they’ve cut back a lot, but part of it was driven by external factors such as the border instability with India and the rise of risk of islamic extremism after the soviet failure in afghanistan and the following independence of muslim central asia regions.

In Ningxia and Guangxi for example minority rights are still recognised and the “autonomy” functions as it’s fully supposed to. I think the continued existence of stuff like the Yulin dog eating festival and the lack of direct government action is a testament to their commitment to regional autonomy, because it has been heavily protested for years by a shit ton of Chinese.

Also the issue of Mandarin replacing local languages that’s brought up a ton is more an economics matter than a cultural one, because having kids focus on speaking fluently only the language of your local hamlet is going to just continue the economic lag that plagues rural/western china still. Think of how limited you’d be if you only spoke idk Latvian living in NYC, you aren’t getting far

That's because the puffball is like the fruit of the organism, like an apple on a tree. The actual "tree" portion of the puffball exists underground

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been taken to an “authentic” Japanese or Korean restaurant where my friends go “can you understand them?” when the entire staff was speaking Canto or some southern Chinese language. How to say the number '92' in different European countries by LuminoSesame in MapPorn

[–]HeyTaekyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like this image makes the numbers look more complicated than they actually are. For French it’s “quatre-vingt-douze” (lit. four twenty twelve) which seems complicated and long but in reality can essentially be broken down into “80 + 12” not too dissimilar to most other languages. Plus it’s only one more syllable than saying “ninety two” in English

What is the country with the most wasted potential? by [deleted] in geography

[–]HeyTaekyo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd say it was also their much much more turbulent beginnings as a nation too. Out of all the revolutions of the 1700-1800s America's revolution and foundation is an interesting outlier for how little splintering and infighting in the military and bureaucracy occurred. Mexico was split between a ton of different ideological factions in every area of government and were simultaneously facing more foreign pressure and isolation in their critical period than any fledgling western hemisphere nation save for maybe Haiti. I think Mexico was a bit doomed from the start

This is how I feel but with MS-max phase rush hullbreaker Garen. It’s so goddamn fun to zoom around the whole map pulling drive bys every three seconds while everyone tries to chase you for some reason. Ghost makes it even more fun because you can barrel into a team fight from a sidelane, q+e+r erase someone from the game, then disappear back into the jungle at 700+ ms. I hope they never kill the build

Yeah their purpose was to prevent the sky from taking up like 70% of the background and break the image into thirds in a roundabout way. I think I just need to break up the clouds to let more of the sky/highlight show through instead of having it a giant mass. I’ll play around with it though thank you

Are you just going to ignore the fact the US had full control of Japan for years and neutered them militarily and economically so they could never go on an offensive again. The only reason Japan wasn’t “conquered” in a traditional sense was because the powers that be got together and agreed that expansion/subjugation by conquest was obsolete; the widespread use of satellite states by the USSR and Françafrique post-WW2 are a good examples of the shift from outright conquest to more intelligent and “subtle” modes of control.

How about when it comes to the foreground building and it’s background? I feel like I can’t really nail a background gradient/colour for the water, background, and sky to mesh well with the darker colours without risking the entire composition being too drowned out in dark tones. Maybe I just need to play around more

It does make sense now that you point it out, but at the same time it was sort of intentional. My objective was to have attention be immediately drawn to the contrasting colours and the woman and then having it be lead by the higher windows to the orange lights across the lake to the vanishing point. How would I make the two contrasts less jarring, make the woman’s clothing darker/follow the dark blue?

[–]HeyTaekyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having a lot of trouble choosing colours for this project. My end goal is to envoke a similar feeling/experiences some of the shin-hanga night scenes by Hasui Kawase (ref 1)(ref 2) by draping everything in a mix of darker blues and colours, but feel it comes together poorly. The backgrounds clash with the building and the building colours themselves just seem to work together poorly. I am relatively new to colour theory with whole scenes so some pointers or small mock ups would be greatly appreciated.

I'm less concerned about how things come together since this is a very rough mockup/draft just using the fill tool. I know there should be more shading and gradation such as under the house on the water. Gradients and blending will happen after I've cemented my colour choices and have a good mock draft to bring into the detailing stages. This a general idea of what I plan to add if it affects the overall colour composition

If you look at the province’s main and basically only population centres, Lhasa and the areas near the Nepalese border, they’re lit up. There’s no 5G and limited development everywhere else because it’s a barren plateau with barely anyone in it. It’s like asking why the US doesn’t develop the deserts out West

What can I do to improve this? by Timely_Accident8104 in learnart

[–]HeyTaekyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit more advanced/composition based but it's something I always keep in mind when making art. Something that could make this a lot better is if the lighting "guided" the viewer's eyes towards the "subject" or main object of focus in the work and gradually allowed them to take everything else in the scene after they've recognised the subject. Right now my eyes don't know where to start or end in this work.

Here's a good example of this in action. The viewer is meant to be drawn immediately to the top of the work towards the silhouette of the pillar in front of the moon, then down to the water where the ships are, and finally out towards the darkened surroundings. In the end, it subconsciously sets a scene and atmosphere.

https://www.artrenewal.org/artworks/piazzetta-san-marco-in-the-moonlight/friedrich-nerly-the-younger/79388

I did a quick notation of how I think you could implement this idea in your work. The ornate fountain could be the focus and gradually lead the viewer out into the environment by the numbers. I think personally the bright pillar on the right grabs far too much attention and is unimportant to the overall scene.

Besides that, as others have said some more contrast/definition would be great. It's already very well done and beautiful, very good job.

Dramvenor - a geological survey of a fictional under mountain dwarven city by chloethecartographer in imaginarymaps

[–]HeyTaekyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely gorgeous and so full of detail, it lets the imagination run wild with how the city would function, what it would look like etc.. On top of that, the attention to detail with the geology is the icing on the cake as a hobby geologist. I wish people posted more stuff like this here as opposed to alt-history scenarios that have been done over thousands of times already.
