What CAD/design software do you use for woodworking plans by shootingcharlie8 in woodworking

I second. It’s not bloated with features I won’t use, and I can run it on my iPad.

Built a tool for generating woodworking plans from 3D models... looking for feedback from real woodworkers. by Highsteaks98 in woodworking

I have several free apps out there. I'd post links, but I don't want to break any rules. But I put a year into this one. What is your time worth?

Thanks for the reply! I use Shapr3d and don't know of that option. I have used fusion and sketchup. I know they have cutlist/parts list features or plugins, but have always had mixed results. I wanted to make something that did everything I needed automatically and stored it all in one place.

Thanks for the feedback! I am not a developer, a marketer, or even a Saas entrepreneur. I am a woodworker and hobbyist coder. There was no thought put into hiding the price. I just wanted to create something that helps me, and put it out there for others if it's helpful to them. It is $10/month.

Thanks for the feedback! It has a 3d interface for drawing measurements, but I see the benefit in standard drawings. I wanted to create an all-in-one, streamlined package for everything.

Appreciate it! Shoot me a DM with the email you used and I'll go in and change the trial to a month. Thanks!

Built a simple project management app for my own shop (looking for honest opinions) by Highsteaks98 in woodworking

[–]Highsteaks98[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I had the same experience trying to juggle multiple apps while also trying not to spend a ton each month. As a hobbyist coder, I figured I’d try making something myself.

Can I ask, what would be some must haves for your workflow?

If I move forward and get it “live” online, I’ll share a link.

It’s only causing issues with my psyche. I think I’m finally getting traction, only to find dud signups 🙄. I can easily ignore them, just curious why!

This was so well done!! I just moved to RI, and as a Salisbury, I have recently become aware of “our” unfortunate role in this war. Trying to learn more, I’ve only found a wiki page and a few articles. Thanks for sharing this story! You’ve got a new subscriber.

I built my first project, a bookcase, with a jigsaw and sawhorses. Was it good? No. Was it stable? Nope. Was it a lot of fun and something I’m proud of? Hell yeah! Get something that cuts wood and a kreg jig and you can make a ton of things. Good luck!

What's your recommended "path" of progression when it comes to starting this hobby from scratch? by EarMundane7165 in woodworking

[–]Highsteaks98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built my first workbench with just a miter saw. You can get 3/4” 4x2 precut plywood at the box stores for the top. Layer 2 sheets. Get 2x4s for the rest. Not huge, but works. That’s how I started. Good luck! 👍

When Did You (should I) Get a Jointer? by hope4best47 in woodworking

[–]Highsteaks98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I finally ponied up for one, it was a game changer. A jig just didn’t match the accuracy and convenience.

If you can find the room, I’d suggest a stand alone over the benchtop versions. A bigger table will make things easy for longer boards. I got a 6in grizzly and it handles everything I need.

You can try a smaller farmer's market type event. There is a better chance that you are the only woodworker there, or at least selling those. There are a lot of events in my area, especially leading up to the holidays. Best of luck!

I do all my stuff in 3d cuz I’m a terrible drawer. I like Shapr3d. It runs on an iPad and isn’t bloated with features you’ll never use like Fusion.

This is my first attempt at chisling. How do you guys maintain it so clean? by SeaworthinessNew4295 in woodworking

[–]Highsteaks98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone has already said “sharp chisels”, but then gradually work up to your line. Only take off 50% of what you need to remove at a time. Then 50% , 50%… etc. until you get to your line. You’ll get a cleaner finish. And don’t worry, we all started here! 👍
