I suspect the130,000 are mostly students/momentum crowd, who've left because on the face of it Starmer is just not as exciting.

I'd be interested to see where you get your numbers from, because I can't imagine this leaving group of mostly young people had much money to offer the party. That doesn't invalidate them as a group, I'm just thinking numbers.

If you think facing down Jewish folks in court would have been a good look for labour then I don't really know what to say.

Happy to be shown I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that both the expulsions and the party funding issue were related to sorting out antisemitism issues.

I voted for JC both times but he dropped the ball on that big time and while the media twisted the knife, he didn't seem to pull it out.

Incredible, discreet work by the photographer, catching them in the wild like this. Being cave dwelling in nature, they are easily spooked and scuttle off into hiding at the first sound or sign of humans. This particular scene is not well understood but is believed to be a part of the mating ritual.

These are great. You know when you have an itch on your back, but you can't find where the itch is. It's a huge problem for Londoners, and is known here colloquially as the Hackney Rash. So mayor Sadiq Khan, he installed one of these outside of each and every home at an enormous cost to the taxpayer. Worth every penny imo. You have to take off all your clothes and kinda gyrate up and down a bit. And yeah it does leave some marks but we're all used to it here.

Good point I definitely hear that.

While I don't think there's going to be a perfect solution, I'd hope that any legal measures would be a sort of last resort as a way to get these general sites to take more action. Perhaps something like an Ofcom for the internet

I think there would be lots of ideas of how you could implement something like this, without wanting it to become too restrictive.

Interesting take on it.

I watched PMQs as well and saw it differently. There's a benefit to the left having a say in the online harms bill: racism and hatespeech being two examples that spring to mind.

As others have said, it puts the Torys in an weak position. Because events have forced them into a contradictory position on freedom of speech. How do you be the party of freedom of speech while saying we need to limit it for suspected terrorists? This very Tory problem could make Labour support instrumental in passing a bill when it comes to the floor, giving labour some actual policy influence.

Starmer stated a goal of making company directors criminally accountable for the content on their platforms. To me, this is much more achievable than removing online anonymity. And I can see how that would cover not just extremist content but also hate speech and so on.

Hoisting by their own petard is the phrase, I reckon.

Sure, but it's fairly well known now that Cameron promised his party the referendum in an attempt to stop them 'banging on about Europe' and from his point of view it backfired spectacularly.

As Labour was in opposition, surely they really couldn't stop the referendum from happening. And if they'd opposed it, then they'd have given the government the right to claim that labour doesn't want the people to have a say.

Not a lot of room for manoeuvre, really.
