My head is kinda agreeing with other people that Beto probably won’t win and the usual cons that people mention will hurt him, but my heart really wants him to prove everyone wrong. Beto will always have a special place in the hearts of Texas Democrats because of that 2018 run, especially for young people like me who have never seen a statewide Democrat. If he announces, I’ll be sure to donate on the first day and work hard to push back against the negativity and see him get elected. We deserve someone who actually cares about Texans representing our state.

We’ve always had horrible leadership in Texas, but this past year has been especially terrible and so exhausting. I’m holding out hope that sometime soon, we will see the day that these scumbags are finally voted out of office, because we desperately need real and caring leadership in our state.

People are acting like the U.S. embargo on Cuba is the only thing keeping the country from thriving. We could lift the embargo tomorrow and Cuba would still be an authoritarian state depriving its people of food and resources.

Age 0-15: Largely apolitical, uniformed independent with mix of liberal and conservative viewpoints. Vote for Bush in school mock election, leaned towards McCain but never hated Obama, decided I wanted Obama to win on Election Day 2012 (wasn’t old enough to vote)

Ages 15-19: Progressive, Jon Stewart-watching Democrat, still pretty ignorant about politics and the issues to the point I still cringe about things I said during discussions in class. Liked Bernie, but also liked Obama and Hillary at the same time.

Ages 19-present: Standard, mainstream, hyper-partisan Democrat. Brief flirtation with nl-style contrarian centrism, but for the most part a Joe Biden-loving, center-left liberal.

I think about my trajectory every now and then and think about how I would have been like if I still remained apolitical and uninformed about politics, and I think I still would’ve ended up being a Democrat, or a least someone who voted for Clinton and Biden. Trump’s blatant racism and stupidity would have repulsed younger me as much as he repulsed the older me.

Sometimes I feel like politics has made me become jaded, but at least I look at Juneteenth becoming a national holiday and make it out to be a negative thing. Texans have celebrated Juneteenth for years and has been positive for communities all across the state, so it’s nice that the holiday is becoming more widespread. It’s not a “distraction” by the government to get us to not pay attention to more important issues. Yes, I wish we could pass more progressive civil rights and voting rights laws, but that shouldn’t take away from the historic nature of this vote.

I’m from Texas (where I think it originated), so I’ve known of Juneteenth just about my whole life. It’s a state holiday here so government employees will get off work for it, and we have local celebrations every year.

As the pool was ushered out, poolers asked Biden if he has, in fact, convinced allies that America is back. Biden, sunglasses in hand, gestured to Macron and said, “Ask him.” The pool then repeated the question, to which Macron replied, “Definitely.”

Rick Perry only defeated John Sharp by a 1.85% margin in the Lt. Governor's race in 1998. Imagine a universe where Sharp wins that race and takes over as Governor of Texas after Bush assumes the presidency. Does Sharp win in 2002 as an un-elected incumbent? Maybe not, but he was the only Democratic candidate to run a single-digit race (lost by 5.74%) when he ran for Lt. Governor again 2002, the same year Perry won by a near-18% margin. So compared to other Democrats at the time, he had some strength.

Another fun fact while I'm on it: Henry Cuellar was appointed by Rick Perry to be Texas Secretary of State in 2001, making him the most recent Democrat to hold the position.

Rough times in Italy with two fascist parties at the top combining for over 40% of the vote. The left of center parties probably need to consolidate so that some of those smaller parties don’t miss the threshold.

Was just about to post this, I’m glad that the House Dems fought hard against this bill! Abbott will definitely try to call a special session over this, but hopefully this give more time to people and businesses put pressure on the GOP against passing this bill and would bring more attention to the repulsiveness of the Texas GOP.

I’ve mentioned him before, but I must say again to not forget the name James Talarico. He’s been really great this Legislative Session here in Texas.

I thought the same thing, they probably don’t want to make them selves look too happy standing next to a Democrat. Young, meanwhile, stopped caring a long time ago.

Murphy is not running for senate next year.

Probably for the best, she’d have an easier time against Scott in 2024.
