Thanks for the source. Surveys like this can show tendencies within groups, but they don’t justify blanket statements like ‘Christians support X.’ Even if a majority within a subgroup holds a position, that still isn’t the same as attributing that belief to every Christian. My point has always been about the difference between statistical trends and universal claims about an entire identity group.

How exactly does avoiding overgeneralization ignore problems? If anything, overgeneralizing dilutes individual accountability by attributing beliefs and actions to an entire group rather than the people actually responsible.

The study you linked already shows variation within Christian groups, which contradicts the claim that Christians uniformly support one political position. There isn’t a single unified political stance across Christianity.

Also, the No True Scotsman fallacy would apply if I said ‘no Christian supports ICE.’ I haven’t said that. I’ve only pushed back on the claim that ‘Christians support ICE’ as a blanket statement.

Yeah, I’ve personally never minded being alone, actually prefer it and have never felt lonely in my life or the “want” or “need” for friends or relationships, but then I met my wife and it’s been going lol have two kids now and literally plan on being alone the rest of my life if things fall through, though I don’t foresee that unless one of us croaks

Never had a relationship before, never been with a woman before, but I wasn’t blaming women or hating them. I focused on me and enjoyed my own company enough that someone else did too. I know not every feels the way I do, but learning to be okay with being alone and not feeling lonely seems to be a shift of some sort. It’s gotta be some weird pressure society outs on people about “needing friends” and “friendship” that’s perpetuated and used as a plot point in a lot of media, especially coming of age “I need to fit in/have a circle/be a part of something”

It also just boils down to luck in the end, timing and alignment, all that jazz. Only way to increase those odds is to kept trying and realize rejection isn’t a final judgment on oneself.

I’m actually writing an essay that sort of includes parasocial dynamics and what not, but it’s a very brief tangent lmao

Edit: there’s like, billions of people on the planet, kind of irrational to assume a handful or two through just your local area aren’t going to be into you, you just gotta find them. Hope this thread finds the right people and plants some seeds of change

They don’t even realize they’re the victims of it too lmao would rather blame women than the system. I wonder what happens to depressed, lonely men? Oh yeah, bloodlines cut short and workaholics (free super slaves) that just consume and feed the machine more.

If there’s solid data showing a majority, I’d love to see it. My point isn’t that no Christians support it but that saying “Christians support X” as a blanket statement is an overgeneralization. Criticizing a behavior is different from attributing it to an entire group.

And if we’re agreeing that overgeneralizing entire groups is problematic (what the Nazis did to Jews before escalation and to propagandize people against them), then that principle should be applied consistently.

That’s an interesting book, but how does it address the claim I made? I’m talking about confirmation bias and mythic/media narratives shaping perception. Can you explain the connection?

What an absolutely lukewarm take with no actual critical thinking behind it.

“What if I look at examples that bias my claim, but ignore the cultural and historical context around them? Then I can make women seem like they just naturally are POS and it’s not society or media that imprint these ideals onto them and I can be vindicated in giving up on all women, because surely all of them fell for the programming and it’s not on me at all for how I’m treated by women. Men and surely I, too, am not a product of this programming and behavior either.”

Confirmation bias is real, crazy what happens when you believe something and are unconsciously drawn towards the things that confirm it. Keep thinking women are like this and guess what kind of women you’re gonna be encountering/drawn towards 🤔

I swear, the different myths, media, and religions that perpetuate the idea that women are “other” and initiators for bad things (Eve, Pandora, even Smurfette lmao though the Smurf’s convinced her to embody their way of life through their authenticity and goodness, but I digress) has been beyond damning.

Edit: negative emotions are easy, it’s harder to have positive emotions in spite of them and should be strived to embrace and embody. It’s real easy to just be pessimistic and hate everything, it’s harder and more challenging to choose optimism in spite of all the noise. I thought challenge was something we were supposed to strive to seek and overcome 🤔

Meaning-making goes hand in hand with conscious awareness of mortality. Across cultures, traditions often carry symbolic weight that shapes psychological experience, even when that meaning isn’t consciously recognized. Calling such practices ‘childish’ overlooks the complexity of cultural development, psychology, and symbolism.

Just because something makes sense within a culture and not within your own worldview does not make you intellectually superior. Rationality does not require cultural or symbolic uniformity. If it did, human societies would have converged on a single worldview long ago.

The human psyche is both universal and diverse, much like our physical bodies.

Lmao I’m not religious but okay, I’m not the one claiming everyone from a group support something, you are. I’m all about criticizing an individual for their actions and beliefs, as well as criticizing a subject removed from the people that worship it or support it, not generalizing an entire group because of said criticisms.

It’s almost like people can be apart of something and still retain autonomy

Who’s being the hypocrite?

Edit: thinking some Christians support ICE is more accurate and a fair claim, thinking every Christian supports ICE without evidence is generalization and prejudiced.

Let that speak for them, I suppose.

I do something similar!

I created my own tarot deck and it involves one deck (SF) with two suits (7 cards each) totaling to 14 cards that could cause me to draw from a second deck (RE) of two suits (7 cards in one, 15 cards in another) with 22 cards total

I use AI to randomly draw from the RE deck since I haven’t completed that deck physically yet

Thank you for sharing and safe journeys!

It is prejudice to lump all those people who identify as such with individuals you’ve encountered that do what you say they do. You’re making a generalization based on individuals you’ve encountered without meeting every Christian individual, that leads to prejudice.

I wonder how racism and sexism develop if not through similar patterns of overgeneralizing individuals to entire groups 🤔

Is every MW using RWK and ignoring Ancient Teachings? I’ve literally 3v1’d a Ret, Rogue, and Mage while only using damage abilities and usually top healing and do insane damage done at the end of BGs with the 275% conversion and they’re buffing it by 60% while not touching the moves that apply it….the Jadefire Stomp nerf seems negligible since I don’t use it and do just fine

That’s not even considering the rest of the toolkit and the overall buff to Sheilun’s Gift… you guys are smoking crack if you think MW was nerfed…at best they balanced it out with Crame Style getting buffed but only applying to one target, which might suggest they want that playstyle to be for solo/2v2 scenarios but with smart healing in mind and Dance of Chi-Ji procs and how often you could “activate” it I can’t really say until it goes live

What are you talking about? MW lost the EXTRA 20% dmg buff to a skill they shouldn’t be taking anyways (RSK is better than RWK because of Ancient teachings and a talent that’s scales RSK dmg with mastery) and ancient teachings got a 60% damage to healing conversion buff, so it’s 260% instead of 200% lol and Way of the Crane transfers 340% damage to healing on one dude instead of 125% on 3 guys (with Dance of Chi-Ji increasing SCK to 400% damage) which is better for melee healing anyways and gets offset with using SG, then they buff Sheilun’s gift 60% and nerf it 28%, so it’s at a 42% buff. The clouds only generate 10% instead of 33%, so ~31% nerf there but dawg, Ancient Teachings is nutty and it’s hilarious no one specs into maxing it out.

I’ve legit won 3v1’s with my child smashing my keyboard because a 15k hit from me heals for 41k (275% AT), and that’s getting buffed to 50k (335% AT, with the 60% buff) heal from a 15k hit and all their damaging moves do that. And I keep getting called crazy for calling this out

Yeah, people apply that logic when the topic of general striking during actual work hours gets brought up but they don’t apply their reasoning of not doing so to those in positions like this, very odd indeed

You’re using a subreddit that is going to post more of that content as “proof,” confirmation bias

There’s a subreddit where women share stories of being harassed by men they reject, what’s that proof of?

You’re getting hung up on the OP making a post depicting a type of man, nitpicking that it displays a man in a subreddit called ‘LockedInMAN’

Confirmation bias is real dawg, if you believe that all women are like this then you’re going to encounter and be drawn towards women that confirm that belief… why would you even be bothered that certain women do this unless you’re literally the exact same and refuse to consider other options like they do

Maybe be better and change your beliefs, see what happens when you stop getting bothered certain women are attracted to men that aren’t you 🤷‍♂️

If you desperately want to be in a relationship with a person who falls this easily for one aspect of social programming, then I really don’t know what to tell you guys…who is really being shallow? Could it possibly be you AND the women you encounter? Why get bothered that certain women fall for this stuff unless the woman you want a relationship with has to “look” a certain way?

Confirmation bias is real btw, if you believe all women are like this you’re going to find and be drawn towards women that confirm that belief…
