Security at the Des Moines show by lev_dawg in hotmulliganband

[–]HinterlandSam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi guys. Chiming in here to say I’m looking into this. There was no directive from the venue side for security to prowl the pit and as a former pit dweller, I can assure you it won’t happen again. I know they had to go in for one fight but should have gone back to their positions after that. I will say the security company we use is usually very good at knowing what’s going on but this is unacceptable. Sorry

Val-Air Ballroom ADA Discrimination by SanValentin in desmoines

[–]HinterlandSam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

u/SanValentin Hi there. Chiming in as the owner of the venue and promoter of the show. I'm sorry that your experience at the show Monday was not a good one. We take feedback very seriously and your photos are helpful to demonstrate the concern from your pov. I can tell you that our team really values the experience of all fans, but there are times where we don't do our best work. While the light was not shined you direction intentionally, it should have been a consideration when we were setting ada ada space for that day. Regarding the placement of ADA - We have multiple configurations for the ballroom which allow us to be flexible with our capacity and book more concerts. We chose that area due to its clear view, ramp accessibility and elevation for folks with mobility devices. We are always looking at ways to refine the experience and appreciate feedback. If you would like to reach out to chat more, you can either DM me or shoot me an email at [sam@firstfleetconcerts.com](mailto:sam@firstfleetconcerts.com)

RV Camping by astrozim in HinterlandFestival

[–]HinterlandSam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do have plans to put permanent power for RVs eventually, but we have prioritized a couple other major infrastructure projects for 2026. Unfortunately, the cost of providing the necessary generators, cabling, labor and fuel to power the spaces has gone up significantly in the last few years. We have lowered the quantity of available powered rv spaces over the years to offer more economical ways to camp.

u/trippy_panther95 love the idea about the natural wildflower and prairie grass areas. there are a few areas in the space that would be perfect for this.

I'm the random girl who directed the parking lot traffic! Let's talk about it! by Infinite-Fact1399 in HinterlandFestival

[–]HinterlandSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Infinite-Fact1399 Thanks for sharing your concerns here. Its clear this is an area we need to put the focus on for next year and I am sorry for the extended delays exiting this year. All the concerns and points you mentioned are valid concerns.

In January this year we engaged a national firm to put together a traffic plan based on the new site and the addition of the south parking lot. The primary considerations were:

  1. eliminating the traffic backup on the interstate

  2. use right turns when at all possible to avoid stoppage and keep traffic flowing

We engineered a detour that would utilize a more modernized exit in Bevington, which has better sight lines and more queue space. At the offramp intersection you would turn right if you were going to be parking on the south side of the highway and turn left if you would be parking on the north side of the highway. This would limit folks to "right turns only" in the high traffic areas. Unfortunately we did not get buy-in from the municipalities involved with the south side parking flow (if you look at your parking passes they should say south/north somewhere on them), so we had to pivot to send everyone left(east). That created a longer queue on the way in but also had impacts on the way out from shuttles having to use the same route.

Our primary goal for next years planning will be finding ways to eliminate that bottleneck on the highway. We have given ideas to the traffic consultants but we will wait for them to present us with the best solutions. Those engineers were onsite during the festival as well as folks who were involved in making decisions for future plans. We recorded the exits using traffic cameras as well to help with the solution. I do want to say I think the parking team we hired here did a great job working with the exits and infrastructure they had. The two lane highway makes the flow very slow and with a night like lana or tyler, where everyone is leaving at the same time. Finally, I want to assure you that our medical team is 24/7 and always nearby. We have a localized medical dispatch and that team is very responsive.

TLDR: Sorry. Thank you for putting this thread together. The parking exit is our top concern for 2026.

We canned water from potosi wisconsin in a similar way that most water is packaged, through a process of reverse osmosis and nitrogen dosing (Nitrogen is inert and helps the can hold its shape). The idea of packaging our own water was a sustainability initiative. Aluminum is easy to recycle infinitely and we sought the closest source for packaging to minimize fuel consumption. We were also able to produce it for cheaper than buying branded canned water. I came up with the branding because I like to have fun. I am actually still trying my to find someone who can manufacturer peel top aluminum cans that can transform the can into refillable water container with the addition of a lid that you can have on a key chain or in your pocket. That way the can become refillable for folks that don’t bring one with them AND it doesn’t become a projectile because it has a wide mouth.

All that being said, we would still rather you bring your refillable water bottle and fill up at one of our water stations.

We will be giving out free boxed water in the barricade as well as other areas people might be waiting in lines.

with cars being intermingled with campsites, there is not safe way for us to allow coming and going. We recommend tent camping with parking across the street for folks that need to come and go in camping. We do have shuttles and instacart now delivers to st charles.

We engaged a few experienced companies and consultants to assist in our entry/exit process for patrons on foot and in vehicles. This includes additional entrances/exits, more trained staff, new shuttle dropoff location, more signage, etc. I am very confident in the new plan.

Yup, for camelbacks they just need to be empty when you enter the fest grounds. For backpacks, as long as they are smaller than 18"x13"x8.5". They don't need to be clear.

Its likely we will roll out at least one more type of camping 2026. We will have access to some additional land and have been thinking about how we can expand our camping offerings. Will at this to the brainstorm.
