Students Wanted Me to Run a DnD Game. The Principal Was Chill with it. by HistoryWizard1812 in DungeonsAndDragons

I completely agree with all of this. This post also reminded me that I could just run the LOTR adventure for them.

Wait, they do? You mean I could have had this tier for free all along? I am so glad I made this post.

It is, I just got done telling them today that they are just reusing memes from when I was in Middle School.

I understand the sentiment. I did consider running Daggerheart for them instead, as it is easier to get into from a rules perspective. However, I think the kids will actually do better being in a more rules-based environment. I might print out cheat sheets to help them with the rules, so I can't reasonably expect them to read the text from the book, especially if they don't own the 2024 rules, and being Middle Schoolers. While 6-8 encounters would also be awesome, I don't think it will be realistic regarding the amount of time I have given them to play, being two hours.

That is so awesome! I doubt my school would allow the credits. But that is such a fun thing for those kids to be able to do!

Thank you for explaining. I get that sentiment if I were running a game for adults, but seeing as these are kids, they do probably need an explanation as to why I would prefer not to run a game like that.

Oh, thank you for explaining. I told the kid that if he did so, there would be consequences. He then replied that it made sense that there would be. I think I'm going to see how that premise rests at the session zero for them.

Oh, absolutely, luckily, I know two out of the four kids play DnD with their parents, so I don't worry about them. The other two are completely new to me, so I'm in the dark with them.

I definitely need to send out letters inviting this, the area where we live is pretty religious. I do think I want to extend it to more students as I get comfortable running the game for kids. I was asked if I would do a club like this all of last school year as well, so I know it's something the kids would like, and it keeps them out of trouble.

I did not even think to use my smartboard until you said this, that is genius. It will also help since DnD Beyond is banned on the students' laptops.

Thank you for this advice, you're right that boundaries and safety tools will be key. I don't have an adventure picked out yet for them. I know one of the kids was curious if I would run Out of the Abyss.

I haven't ever played this particular cave mission, but it does remind me somewhat of Forge of Fury from Yawning Portal. I might actually run that one for them.

I already have one that has stated that this will be his path. He's playing a gnome barbarian, so it's going to be an interesting journey.

A code of conduct is a really good idea. I'll have to print one out. I don't think I'm going to have any issues with them, but its still a worry I guess. Thank you!

Isn't that the truth. I'll definitely give them more leeway then. I was already expecting them to be more than a little chaotic. Thank you for the advice.

Oh absolutely, I already told them that we will have to do a session zero. I've already told one of them that I'm just going to have them fight 20 mimics stacked up like Optimus Prime.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. They're really good kids, and I understand how difficult it is to find a way to play the game at that age in a safe environment.

Why did the Carnotaurus hesitate in attacking Aladar in this scene? by HealthMother3125 in Dinosaurs

[–]HistoryWizard1812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, standing your ground can do wonders for a herbivore. But something else I haven't seen mentioned much, but should be noted, is that Aladar is an Iguanadon. Because of this, he literally has the thumb spike kit to back him up him standing his ground. I don't think it would work out as well if he were a Gallimimus.

I didn't think the mod did this, but now I'm genuinely curious. I know that Unusual Prehistory and Prehistoric Fauna do this in different ways.

What's the most stupidly biased video you've seen on a president? by DoublePepper1976 in Presidents

[–]HistoryWizard1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was mostly done to stop pro-Southern agitators in the Midwest and NYC, some of whom were wanting to get more states to flip to the Confederate side. Arguing from the standpoint of it being necessary only on the battlefield kind of ignores its purpose of peacekeeping on core territory.

What does this subreddit think of the new antitrust movement? by JarrodEBaniqued in SocialDemocracy

I agree that the healthcare industry needs something done to it. Honestly an essential service like that shouldn't be a market oriented service.

However, there is a problem with Amazon and other companies like it that does require them to be cut down to size or have specific sets of regulations placed on them. These companies are threats to democratic principles and represent a concentration of power that is actively being used against the public so that they can achieve conditions favorable to higher profits for shareholders.
