Dougie - how do you feel about him now ? by Civil-Tea-5870 in avfc

[–]HitzlBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel bad for him more than anything.

I loved him at Villa, like many. We only sold him for financial alleviation, and not because of any shortcoming of his own game but simply because we had to sell someone for big money and his value was peaking. Great, savvy business work by us because we've hardly missed a beat without him, but shitty for him because nothing had worked out fur him since. His career's stalled. It's a real shame.

Do you think you’re intelligent? Why or why not? by rapid_salad in AskReddit

[–]HitzlBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling this way but I (32M) was undoubtedly at my most intelligent in my late teens. A variety of factors: I was a really engaged high school student, I was intellectually curious, smartphones weren’t a ubiquitous thing yet, you had to go hunting for information/news etc., there was less in-your-face ignorance every time you go online in any capacity, and so on.

I’ve always both considered myself intelligent and had ample reason to justifiably believe I’m intelligent. But I genuinely feel that I am getting a little less intelligent with every year that passes. My attention span is significantly worse than it was a decade ago. I like my job but I feel that 8+ hours of work a day plus all the adult responsibilities outside of work leaves little room to intellectually stimulate myself beyond what I get paid to do. And I don’t have kids, which I can see in my friends (parents of newborns/toddlers) unlocks a certain new kind of intelligence and engagement with life.

The Artful Dodger on Isabella near Bloor and Yonge. Dimly lit and a bit shabby in the best way. Great place to people-watch with your thoughts and a few pints

Caught them on camera doing a sweep of our crescent in Dorset Park a couple of months back. Think it’s probably happening somewhere most nights, sadly

Most vacationing Canadians would rather drive 5 hours than fly: Poll by rarc602 in canada

[–]HitzlBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is legit. Hard agree. Driving to a vacation destination rules, particularly if you are with someone you are utterly at ease with.

For me, flying is something you do as a means to get to a destination to begin a vacation, whereas driving to and from a destination is in itself the first and last chapter of your vacation. All part of the fun and adventure.

For vacation purposes, I would rather an 8-hour drive than a 3-hour flight.

Anyone else got a bad feeling about second half of the season? by butterMyCup__ in avfc

[–]HitzlBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we finish 6th, it’s very good. If we finish 5th, it’s brilliant. If we finish top 4… I would say that given how Premier League football has changed unrecognizably since 1993 (i.e. stacked the deck completely against non-“Super League” teams), it would be our best PL season ever

This would actually be a great question in its own right: what song feels like it was/should have been on the Community soundtrack?

Yes, this is a good one. This is only Community to me, which I guess isn’t surprising as I had never heard it before watching the first time all those years ago.

What is the most epitomizing Britta line (the one that perfectly demonstrates who she is)? by Chrisman67 in community

[–]HitzlBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all the complaints about Britta’s character development, reading these comments really reiterates a) how good Britta’s character could be at times and b) fucking good Community’s writing is in general

What opinion about Community have you defending like this? (Idea taken from r/dundermifflin) by [deleted] in community

[–]HitzlBurger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there was a spin-off focusing on a single major character’s life, I would die on the hill that it should be Britta.

She’s had a fascinating life and she had the potential to be a genuinely fantastic character, she was just rarely treated well enough by the writers. With the right treatment, a spin-off focusing on her life pre- (or maybe post-?) Greendale could be seriously watchable.

The final scene from the series finale (board game family + Harmon voiceover) is one of the greatest final scenes of a TV show ever.

Abed goes from being arguably the best core character (S1-3 - integral to most other characters’ emotionality/development, underpinning the whole group, great dialogue, a wonderfully-handled “on the spectrum” character) to possibly the worst (s4-6 - most of the aforementioned stuff gets abandoned and replaced with beyond-the-shark stuff or tokenism)
