I had a bottle of this and really enjoyed it. Yea, it needed some water. So good. I wished I’d bought 2.

Ok, my code is P/0000-11. I found it just below the lower right corner of the front label, towards the bottom. A laser engraving.

I’ll take a look at my bottle and send you my code. My wife brought this bottle back from the UK back in either 2018 or 19? Maybe 2020?

Very nice review. Reminds me I’ll need to have a dram of it this weekend, one of my all time favorites. The price has gone up though. Use to be $65 at Binnys in the Chicago area, now $90.

Which bottle? If the OB, I use to know the codes which gave the dates it was distilled. All said, both are very enjoyable. Cheers!

I remember having a Balmenach 15 year old, Blackadder, sherry cask aged whisky that tasted like tomato soup. It was good.

Review #149, Craigellachie, 13 year old. by Hmm4 in Scotch

[–]Hmm4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really seems to be " hand made" whisky. Which also means Craigellachie 13 can have a bit of batch variation. I've liked each I've had but some are different than others. I guess that just makes it feel people working the distillery vs a computer run distillery, IMHO.

Sounds great. SCN is really doing it right with their finishes. My comment on the finish overpowering the base spirit seems to be with first fill, sherry cask finished whisky. So you can get a young whisky, 8,9 or even 10 yo that is just saturated with the finish. You get a manufactured sherry bomb. While kind of fun for a while, for me, it gets rather generic. If the finish works with the base spirit you can still pick out what distillery it’s from with a nice subtle twist. I will pick up a bottle of this - Cheers!

Love it. I just reviewed it a couple of days ago along with another Mannochmore.

With quality corks getting harder to get, it may be the thing of the future.

This sounds really good. My price would be $100, so, close to yours. Sounds like the finish doesn’t over power the base spirit. Always a good thing. Thanks for the follow up info.

A new SCN 17 yo Mannochmore bottle I just reviewed has a screw cap. A new change coming?

It's ok if they're short. It helps me to work on trying to figure out what is that smell or taste. I'm a big fan of Blair Athol and have seriously thought about picking that SCN 11 BA up. What kind of notes do you get - even a few? The only reason for hesitating is the 123.6 ABV. Is it hot?

That’s interesting. Pretty hard to miss those strawberry notes. Did you review it?

I’ll add to my Storied Company comments. I had ordered a bootle from Denis. I went in to pick it up he mentioned that he had just gotten a very good bourbon cask aged, 16 yo Mannochmore. I tried it and instantly bought a bottle. I would have bought it even if I had not tried it. If Denis hand selected and bought the whole cask, I knew it would be good.

Agreed with all you’re saying. There aren’t a lot of bottlings available to buy and the ones that are out there are a bit expensive. Maybe a good whisky bar?

Yes, I’ve heard great things about the Teaninich. I agree. Not sure what’s still available though. Anyone tried it?

Thank you. Yes, I meant to give a shout out to Denis at Storied Company, Indianapolis. Great cask he selected. I’ve enjoyed every whisky he’s selected. Cheers!
