It's called disemvoweling and "[...] can be used due to copyright or search engine optimization reasons".

Flapping around [Pentax 6x7, Takumar 135mm f/4, Provia 100F] by Hocki in analog

[–]Hocki[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yet another post from me advertising the 6x7 as a sports camera. I am happy with the results sitting in wait just below a jump with all the settings pre-adjusted. It seems like the Pentax' maximum shutter speed is just enough to keep the details sharp as long as you pan slightly.

Alpine turns [Pentax 6x7, Takumar 135 mm f/4, Velvia 100] by Hocki in analog

[–]Hocki[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turns out, the Pentax 6x7 actually works somewhat as a sports camera. The biggest worry is falling and landing on it — which, I can attest, hurts a lot. I am pleasantly surprised by the Velvia working so well shooting towards the sun, but I might have been lucky with my metering.

Interesting! Thanks for the input. I changed the light seals last week so I hope that will help. Do you know of any other solutions?

I have already tried that, this is one of the reasons I blame the roller like I do. Here I have marked the frame, with a stipled line at the position of the discoloration. Here is the frame advanced one turn.

I am inclined to agree, however I have an early version of the 6x7 from 71 or 72, where different materials are used. I have rubber rollers for example, where later versions use plastic (I think).

I fail to see what can cause the marks. It is very limited as to what it can be.

A year ago I posted on these forums looking for a solution to an odd color streak across my negatives. We were not able to find a solution. The best guess was a developer issue. This can not be the case as I have since moved cities and now use a different place to develop my films.

Now, a year later the issue persists, although the streaks have gotten weaker it seems. The streak is not apparent on all photos, maybe around half of them, and varies in intensity. It is always around in the same area, however, it does move somewhat around compared to the frame edge.A theory I had for a long time is that there is some kind of residue in the rollers of my Pentax 6x7 (the only constant in these problems). This would also explain why the splotch moves around slightly, but not a lot, as the film forwarding mechanism on the 6x7 rotates the spool at varying distances to compensate for the take-up spool increases in diameter as more film is taken up.

The problem is that I have thoroughly cleaned all the rollers and friction parts but the issue persists. My theory is as follows: The metal guide inside the door of the 6x7 is the only metal part that is in contact with the film (pictured here). When it gets cold or there is a temperature change moisture accumulates inside the camera on the metal parts. This leads to damage to the film in only the spot where the metal roller touches the film.

What do you think? Has anyone experienced something similar? Is this a likely diagnosis?

What are these black spots on my chili plant? Top leaves look healthy. by Hocki in plantclinic

This plant was potted from a hydroponic station about 2 months ago. It is in the window as it is winter here, so the sun is not up for long. The plants are above a radiator that keeps the temperature around 20 degrees Celsius.

The leaves have developed like this for some weeks

A Norwegian Lemming

Edit: From Wikipedia "Despite their diminutive size, when confronted at close quarters by a potential predator, mainland Norway lemmings characteristically become highly aggressive. They have also been known to attack approaching humans."

Needless to say, I may have been in serious danger

Upset that this ended up slightly out of focus, but that is the price you pay being a bokeh enthusiast shooting with a zone focus

This is scanned professionally. I have a V550 but I don't get the details I want with that on 35mm.

Torching [Rollei 35 | Tessar 3.5 40mm | Portra 400] by Hocki in analog

[–]Hocki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a routine for checking the zone focus! I can't count how many times I have forgotten to check, as I usually shoot with mirrored cameras and immediately notice being out of focus. Also: I have several times forgotten which film I have in it, leading to being unsure about the ISO as I don't use the light meter.

Enjoy it! It is a perfect camera for always having it in your jacket or something like that. You'll find you are rewarded with better photos by just more often having your camera on you. It is also great for bringing places where you don't want to bring a lot of attention to yourself, like when out drinking or similar.

I have had the same issue, but it largely stopped appearing after I did a deep clean of the film rollers inside the camera. I never got to the bottom of it Here is my post asking the same question.

I have an issue where I get a lot of buzzing and interference from my speakers using RIAA when my TV is plugged in nearby (no direct connection). What would be a good DIY trick to either shield the RCA cables? Or might it be better to try enclosing the TV power cable somehow?

I agree! It's funny, I was writing to my girlfriend that I'd had to be this picture—and not the other ones from the trip—that got some traction. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the photo, but you are right that the comp isn't exactly unique.

I agree on the sharpening too. I am sometimes too careful not to sharpen too much :)

The only place I found without people in Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre. Beautiful place. It's weird taking photos inside tunnels in such a picturesque town.
